I have started the drug escitalopram 3 weeks ago and had huge amounts of side effects like skin burning sensations, numbness and a feeling of being too high. Sometime the feeling is too much.
Did anyone have that and how long does it take to go away? I had started feeling some of the benefits yesterday but got pretty ill in the evening with that too much feeling?
Who experienced bad side effects from escitalopram?

I also started three weeks ago, 2.5mg then to 5mg. My most difficult side effects are increased anxiety and nausea. I take my dose at bedtime, with Dramamine. This helps combat the nausea. Hopefully the side effects will dissipate, but it could take a few more weeks. The numbness could be panic, but I have never had skin burning sensations. Hope this helps.
Thank you.
And you’re still feeling anxious at 3 weeks? Had a bit of a breakthrough day yesterday but was short lived. Felt like I was high. I hope this drug works soon!
Did you have some weird balance or motion sickness?
Hi Fred, I too take escitalopram and strangely it effects everybody differently. The things you ate experiencing I have as well. The Skin burning sensation, unbalance feeling, nausea, lost of appetite, headaches etc. But the good news is it will subside as you continue taking it, it will start helping you. My understanding is it takes 4 to 6 weeks for most, it truly depends on the individual. One by one side effects will quiet down, but communicate this with your doctor, let them know how you're feeling. I'm on my 3rd month, I have taken it 72 days, and I feel better each passing day, it's nice to Feel Calm and not anxiety or panic or feelings of hyperventilating. Hang in there, it will help, feel better.
Oops typo... are
Trallyn, thank you so much for your response. Could I ask how much you are taking? Getting through these first weeks is so hard.
Thank you so much. This helps!
The burning and numbness is better now. It’s the balance that is out of control and the rush feeling and sickness at night.

Hey Fred, I usually take mine early morning after I eat something. The unbalance and numbness will slowly go away as your body adjust to the medication, now I'm no doctor, however only speaking on my own experiences. I did tell my doctor what I was going through and he told me to keep taking it, the side effects will subside. But it's good u are noticing how you're feeling, but let your doctor know. He/she may adjust or change to something else, but it's important to talk with your doctor. Hang in there... one thing I'm thankful for I got my appetite back :-)... take care
Thank you all. I will post more and will let you know of my progress. Very helpful to talk to each others.
The balance makes the walking funny for you too?
Yes, Fred it drove me crazy. I thought something else was wrong with me. But, I kept taking the pill and I take it the same time every day.
I had a horrible night with it, with tremors and bad sickness feelings. Did you experience that as well? I am confused and wondering if I need to stop or switch medication. It’s been 24 days now and it’s starting to make me feel super ill. Any suggestions?
Hi Seyeter, I'm taking the 5mg dose. And believe me I know it's hard the first few weeks, but it will level out and slowly you will feel calm & better. My doctor told me it takes 2 to 4 weeks, but when I was looking for help, I joined here and found support. You can learn from others journey. And it can be the littlest things could pull you through. Please keep your doctor informed on your progress of how you're feeling and what you're going through, each day it gets a little better.
The skin burning sensation will subside, hang in there. I too take the escitalopram 5mg.
Hi again
I can start feeling some of the benefits now at almost 4 weeks. It’s slow but I do have happy moments in the day!
I still get some nausea, balance issues and sick feeling during the day a few hours after I take it. How long did it take for you to get the effects to completely go?
Also wanted to see if anyone had experienced weird vision for a few weeks. Feels like u am tripping a bit and I’m and out of sharpness? Is that something that goes away?
Hi
End of week 5 today and still having some weird balance stuff happening. And my vision goes funny. When will it go away? How long did that last for you guys? I feel calmer but it’s added new anxiety based on those side effects. I feel like I am swaying. Any recommendation?
