And heavy scented men's deodorant? This & pack-a -day smoking did it for me. I no longer work at the pharmacy, & try to let people know their perfumes really mess with me. They think I'm a nut, & continue to wear it, so I avoid them

I have something similar to this and it is making me crazy that I can't find a solution.
My wife is always getting candles and other things with chemical fragrances that are mostly cinnamon scented and they always set me off but it doesn't absolutely have to be that specific scent.
I can always tell when I am around something like this when I can suddenly taste it on my lips and then they start to burn.
We have one particular candle that gets me every time, even when the cover is on it.
What is causing this and what can I do about it?

I have had burning mouth for about 7 years. Everything triggers this condition. I believe that chemicals and perfumes worsen my burning mouth. I am currently trying to eliminate all sugars and that is very difficult. I work for a dentist who has informed me that the latest research shows that this auto immune condition is possibly connected to a nerve ending deterioration. I can not live with out a specially compounded mouth wash made with clonazepam. Sometime's my mouth has two open sores at a time and I need to swish this mouth wash just to be able to talk. I see a mouth specialist at the Brigham and Women's Hosp in Boston. Her name is Dr Sook Bin Wu. I see her to make sure the lesions are not cancer and to get refills. She and my dentist have very little information about this condition. I have been told that there is NO correlation between burning mouth and cancer. That does not really console me because my best friend died from tongue cancel. She never smoked and many oral cancers are HPV related. So if you have a child make sure you get them vaccinated against the HPV virus. I now chew gum to help with the pain and it works sometimes. I have cut back to one cup of coffee. I find that lemon cookies really hurt and that only fine dark chocolate doesn't trigger a really bad episode. No joke- nestle's and other inexpensive chocolate hurts my mouth. I hope some researcher out there can help us some day.

I have had burning mouth also for 7 years. I have all the same problems as both of you. I have super senitive smell and can't eat any of the foods I use to. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 4 years ago. I try to narrow it down to certain things. I have found that chocolate and high sugar makes it worse I stay away from any thing with flavor. I take the Alpha Lipoic Acid and just started Amitriptyline. When I first had my symptoms I went to every Doctor from A to Z and know one could help or knew what causes it to burn. Some days are worse than others and it seems like stress makes the fire hotter. It was good to read about other people's experiences

I have had a very over sensitive taste and smell problem for a long time now and and perfume, leather or chemical makes my tongue, lips, the roof of my mouth and sinus burn and hurt. Any suggestions on what kind of doctor to see for this problem?

Hi, I have this same issue. Certain smells, chemicals, etc really flare my mouth and lips up. Sometimes I have what feels like is rough torn spots in my gums. I’m not sure is it is a vitamin deficiency, I did have mold exposure so wonder if toxicity doesn’t play a part or if anxiety might do this, I’m also very anemic and maybe it has to do with this? I’ve had it so long, I’ve learned to deal with it and not freak out but it’s VERY annoying and I wish I had answers to as why! If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

I meant to mention my mouth burns on a daily basis and then other times it will be perfect. I wonder if hormones don’t play a part in this? Do men get this?

Hi I have had burning mouth syndrome since 2016 and I also have smell sensitive issues I have been to so many different doctors and they all have done testing on me and they all come back normal .. so they think my smell sensitive is coming from the burning mouth syndrome I have also got burning throw my scalp and under my arms I’m now going to a specialist at westmead hospital to see if it’s my immune system cause my issues and anxiety I have from this sickness is just wrong ... if anyone is having any of those issues please come and let me know what you do for this issue.

I understand what your saying I have all the same thing as what your got and it’s horrible feeling I’m hoping it goes away soon
