I have started taking 200mg of alpha lipoic acid daily for burning mouth. I noticed that after taking the capsule my urine has a bad smell —like skunk or sulfur. My physician has not heard of that side effect and said to increase the dose to 600mg daily because 200mg was not helping with my burning mouth. Has anyone else noticed malodorous urine and does it go away?

I definitely get unpleasant odor from ALA. Always have. I think greater the dosage, the more potent the odor.

Thank you Annie from England. I’ll see what happens with the 600mg and if it makes a difference in my Burning Mouth Symptoms. I wonder if drinking more water will make the malodorous urine smell better?
I took ALA 300 mg twice a day for 4 months and no help. But it may help others!
Thank you Annie. I’ll keep my fingers crossed because don’t know what other options we can find for Burning Mouth Syndrome.
