I have just been prescribed this medication due to depression and anxiety, however I have a major phobia of sickness and I’m absolutely terrified to start taking them incase they make me sick. I’ve put it off for 2 weeks already just down to this reason. I had sertraline a few weeks ago and that made me so so ill. I was in bed for 3 days and lost so much weight. I don’t want to be like that again.
Escitalopram - Does Lexapro make you sick?

Hi, phoebe!
Unfortunately all psychotropic medications have the POTENTIAL to cause side effects and if you anticipate that you'll be ill you probably will be. And it's also likely that just because you had side effects on one medication you won't necessarily have severe ones when taking another.
From the literature"
"Side effects have been reported to be generally mild and transient. They are most common during the first 2 weeks of treatment and decrease in intensity and frequency with continued treatment. They generally do not lead to treatment cessation."
"How Long Does It Take For Escitalopram To Work?
Sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working. Depressed mood, anxiety, and lack of interest in activities may need up to 6-8 weeks to fully improve."
The most common side effects are headaches and nausea both of which can be helped by OTC remedies. If you have these just ask your pharmacist for recommendations.
Try to focus on the improvements you'll start to see early on and try not to dwell on the negatives that may not even happen. Don't let your anxiety do the talking for you... you don't want to live that way, do you? That's why you're trying these medications... to help you heal.
Best regards and I hope you'll give this a shot!
