However I’m worried about the effectiveness. I was always told to take it on empty stomach and wait an hour to eat. What do I do ? Since taking it with food, I haven’t gotten sick.
My endocrinologist said I can take my levothyroxine with food because I get so sick when I take it?

my mom had her thyroid and one of her parathyroids removed due to cancer. her dr. told her it is very important to take synthroid rather than any of the other thyroid medications because it is the most exacting as far as perfecting dosage is concerned. i have hypothyroidism and levethoyroxine is fine for me, but if i were you i would truly tell my dr what i have just relayed to you. good luck..karen
Oh and one more thing: I believe for maximum effectiveness medication is supposed to be taken by itself and an hour before food. Could be wrong, just something to look into if you have not.
Hi, Booka! It's probably best to follow your endocrinologist's advice. It's true that taking levo with food may interfere with absorption but you'll still be getting most of your dose. Try to avoid foods like soybean flour, walnuts, dietary fiber, calcium and calcium fortified juices, and vitamins or supplements.
Later, if your levels are off on your next blood test a dosage adjustment might be needed.
Best regards and good luck!
