... (I’ve taken effexor for over 7 years) going 37.5mg at a time per week and yesterday it came time to cut it off altogether, and it was an absolute nightmare. I’ve experienced effexor withdrawals many, many times, but this was especially horrible knowing that my doctor intended for this to happen. Why are they allowed to prescribe medications that they can’t even begin to understand the effects of? I couldn’t walk across a room, I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t even move my eyes too fast without nearly vomiting. I called my doctor’s urgent help line over 30 times with no answer. The only thing that saved me was finding extra 75mg capsules left over in my cabinet. I just needed to vent somewhere that other people will actually understand. Thank you
Effexor - Doctor tried to taper me from 37.5mg to nothing. Anyone else experience this?

Hi, Zip!
I'm so sorry for your horrible experience, It's regrettable that each person will have a different response to using and/or stopping these medications and it's entirely unpredictable from one person to the next. For instance, I took Effexor for many years with no side effects and stopped it without a taper with no discontinuation symptoms.
I doubt that your doctor intended this to happen to you but not responding to your urgent messages is unforgivable. Hopefully, you have found another doctor that can guide you in developing a better plan for stopping.
