I have a serious foot infection on my right foot underneath my toes. I just started taking the medicine yesterday. How long does it take before i will see any results of the medication starting to take effect on my infection?
Thank you,
John

Hello John and welcome to DC. This "strong" antibiotic was prescribed to you for a reason. The results should be seen within a matter of days. Not long at all really. Because we cannot see you or your foot... I urge you to stick with the program the doctor has set you on BUT do keep notice of how things are progressing or not progressing. My sister gets a similar sounding condition and she lives in Florida. Lots of heat and humidity that is a stomping ground for bacteria overgrowth..
Did your doctor mention taking acidophilus, too, to prevent a condition called "thrush" as ALL of the bacteria is killed off??? Antibiotics tend to throw off the natural flora in the body. My doctor normally recommends that I take acidophilus during the treatment period. Thrush looks like tiny, white patches of "cotton" in your mouth and can be quite uncomfortable and sore. There is an oral med that you suck on and works quite well. Don't worry about that part... it is easy to treat should that happen.
You should be feeling better in a few days, okay?
Take good care and be well.
Mary
Dear John, if it is a bacterial infection it will work, but I suspect you may actually have athletes foot, by your description of where it is, athletes foots is more likely and that is fungal. Try Lotrimin or tinactin for a few days, if the symptoms if itching, oozing and inflammation start to ease, it IS athletes foot. You can do some research by google imaging pictures if athletes foot, it should show you a few images and look up the symptoms too. Patti
It will be effective if its the proper antibiotic for the bacteria that is infecting it.
It will start working on the infection before you notice anything. I can't give you a time period until you see it working. It doesn't work that way with antibiotics.
