Lee,
The maintenance dosage for depression and anxiety disorders is 60 to 120mg/day. Yes, it's a high end dosage but within the normal range.
GP's are only familiar with the basics and usually refer difficult cases to a Psychiatrist, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. and/or Therapist. Have you considered any of those? They can guide you in learning the triggers that provoke depression and anxiety and how to better cope with your personal triggers. Just a thought...

PS, I required the max dosage when I was taking duloxetine and my sister is currently taking the 120mg/day with no problems. Just personal experience.
How did it work for you?how long did it take?

I was later diagnosed with Bipolar disorder with concurrent anxiety and started a new medication regimen,
Currently I'm taking Vraylar, Aplenzin, Lamictal, buspirone, and methylphenidate. Quite a cocktail but it works!
Take care!
