I may be a few years late here but I wanted to respond in regards to the gentleman who says "It wont give false positives not a stimulant," he knows cause hes in law. Well I am a doctor of molecular microbiology and have specialized in the development of drug transport systems for the last 37 years. I'm sorry to inform you you are false in your insistence that false positives will not occur. And here's why. The molecule consists 2 aromatic rings joined by an oxygen atom. one aromatic ring presents an aliphatic amine which is in fact the very definition of an amphetamine, if one were to remove the oxygen bond secondary aromatic ring. As long as the 2 rings are joined Strattera is not a stimulant and does not present the characteristics of an amphetamine.
However, during first pass metabolism, Strattera is metabolized at the oxygen joining the 2 rings and your left with an amphetamine that is one methyl group away from being methamphetamine. This is the predominant metabolite and as such an amphetamine metabolite. There is no way around that. In fact it makes me question the validity of Strattera's current classification. It will test positive contingent upon plasma concentration, quantity used so on and so on.
It is in fact possible and there's medical documentation of this happening. I tested positive, but I take Wellbutrin which can also give a false positive.
No strattera will not come up for any urine of hair test. I work in the law field. I am living proof that it will not show up. Strattera is a non stimulant. sometimes we read to much misinformation on the internet. Most people who say they were positive either took something else/had a cheap take home urine test or are just trying to stir up fear. . Strattera is not going to show up.
Hi Trey,
Unless there is a completing reason not to, I believe in letting your employer know at test time that you're taking a prescription drug. Much less anxiety for you and i'm sure your Dr would go to bat for you in the event of a "false positive." You've heard some expert opinions above about the randomness of some tests. Best to be prepared.
Good luck to you.
Hello treypezzy. You are correct. Prozac, Zoloft and Seroquel are also known to cause a false positive in drug screen tests. Regards pledge
There can be false positives for all kinds of things. Sometimes it may trigger and sometimes it doesnt. It depends a lot on your personal chemistry and also on the accuracy of the drug test. Some of them arent the most accurate. Just be sure to let the tester know that you are prescribed this medication.
