My dermatologist prescribed me it. Went on it for about 2 weeks and it got worse. I stopped taking it for 3 days until my pharmacist talked me into taking it and said 'it gets worse before it gets better' and I didn't give it enough time. Is this true? I had a mild case to begin with and he said it was mild when he saw it but it flaired up massively.
Can doxycycline be used to treat folliculitis? so far it's made it flair up?

Well yes , with antibiotics the tendency is that it will get worse before one can see/feel an improvement, but if we are talking of a massive reaction , something is not right, I would discontinue use and talk to my Dr. asap.
Thankyou for your reply.. I did not have a massive reaction (I saw a pharmacist and they said it was a mild case and that I didn't give it enough time to work) but I'd say at least 10x more inflamed. Thanks again for your help if possible could I ask another question... Do you have personal experience with taking antibiotics for folliculitis? I am seeing my doctor in a week so I guess I will keep taking them until then and see how it goes as I'm worried if I stop it will flair up even more.
no I do not have experience with folliculitis, but I do with medications in general, reactions to meds , side effects etc, not bragging only sharing. I was on this site and left at that time I had answered over 7.500 Qs now I came back and have answered over 2.800 Qs, and it feels great to help others in need.
A bit of info;
What should I avoid while taking doxycycline?
Do not take iron supplements, multivitamins, calcium supplements, antacids, or laxatives within 2 hours before or after taking doxycycline.
Avoid taking any other antibiotics with doxycycline unless your doctor has told you to.
Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Doxycycline can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors.
Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, stop taking this medicine and call your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medicine unless your doctor tells you to.

Okay thanks and just one more question... how long does the stage where it gets worst is over and it gets better if it were to with taking doxycycline? So that would be the side effect of a rash then? if so then how long before it goes away?
