Hydrocodone 650/10 takes the edge off my pain and makes it tolerable. I just don't like taking that much aspirin 4 times a day. It also makes me hungry and sleepy. I have been on it for 7 years now. I have 3 rupturing disc and degenerative disc disease L4,5, S1. I would like to hear from anyone that has been in this situation and been on Hydro and switched to Norco and what kind of luck they had. Thank you so much.
Does Norco make you hungry & sleepy like the Hydrocodone does?

Norco and Vicodin are hydrocodone. The federal government requires all hydrocodone tablets to be sold with 325 mg of acetaminophen. Even if you get generic hydrocodone tablets they will contain acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is the ingredient in Tylenol. It is not aspirin, but it has aspirin-like properties of pain relief and inflammation.
The only drawback with this combination is that accidentally taking too much acetaminophen will damage your liver. About 12,000 people a year are admitted to hospitals with liver failure due to acetaminophen toxicity. You would have to take about 10 tablets of Norco per day to possibly damage your liver, that's something you can control. The unfortunate news is that many other over-the-counter medicines have acetaminophen as one of their ingredients, so it happens that people unknowingly take excessive amounts of the offending drug without knowing it until their liver fails.
By the way, the reason the government put the acetaminophen requirement in hydrocodone tables is that apparently they found that people had been crushing them to inhale the pure hydrocodone and get high.
Anyway, the direct answer to your question is yes. Whatever hydrocodone does to you will be exactly what Norco and Vicodin will do to you.
Okay about the liver I try to combat the Acetaminophen with Milk Thistle supplement but, make sure it's 80 percent Silymarin you can get it from Swanson's vitamin online it works ! every time I have been to get a full blood work up my doctor is amazed by my liver enzymes i really hope a lot of people see this comment
Hey ladoggone,
Just wanted to share that Norco is hydrocodone with acetominophen. The amount of acetominophen is 325mgs while the amount of hydrocodone can vary from 5mgs, 7.5 mgs or 10mgs. For pictures of Norco, go to:

So I suspect that if the hydrocodone you speak of made you hungry and sleepy the Norco will as well.
Best wishes,
Laurie
Laurie, Thank you for your answer. My pharmacist said it was not the same makeup as the Hydrocodone and the acetominophen is 325 in Norco and 650 in my hydrocodone. It reads 650/10, i.e. your 5/7.5 and 10 mg. I have been on it for years. thanks again.
Hey ladoggone,
They are different formulas of the same active ingredients. The lower number is the amount of hydrocodone while the higher number is the amount of acetominophen. Wasn't sure if you understood that. So the pharmacist was accurate in that the pills where different in their formula but the same in the active ingredients. Make sense?

Yeah, got ya now. I was trying to find something comparable to Hydrocodone with less acetominophen in it to protect my liver. Do you know of anything? I recently tried some Fioricet/cod which has acetaminophen 325, caffeine 40 and butalbital 50 in it. It did not make me hungry but seemed to alleviate some of the pain, but truly not as well as Hydrocodone. My pharamist said she would not recommend me to change to that because it is for migraines and butalbital can cause severe dependence that may be worse than hydrocodone. So I am back to square one.
Hey ladoggone,
Don't recommend the fioricet either. It is very addictive because of the barbiturate in it like the pharmacist said. Anyway, may be you could switch to an oxycodone formula without acetominophen. Oxycodone is stronger than hydrocodone but similar. Oxycodone comes in a formula with acetominophen so you would have to ask the doctor to specifically prescribe the acetominophen free. If hydrocodone works, I'm sure the oxycodone will too.
