my aunt has an ear infection and was wondering if she takes Clindamycin that she has left over if that will make the infection go away.
Does clindamycin work with ear infections?

How long does it take for cleocin 300 mg four times a day to get rid of a severe middle ear infection?
Sorry, but she shouldn't have any "leftover" antibiotics. They are prescribed to be taken & it says on every prescribtion to take ALL of the medication even if you are feeling better. I agree with Dzoobaby that she needs to be examined first. Good luck,
Absolutely! The only reason a person may have "leftover" antibiotics is if the Dr did a culture and found out the initial drug prescribed did not kill the type of bacteria found so switched to a better antibiotic which is rare because most Drs start with a broad spectrum antibiotic. Some people may need a second round of an alternate antibiotic after an initial broad spectrum.. Too many people stop taking their antibiotics as soon as they start feeling better and this can lead to greater problems like superinfections and resistant strains of bacteria!
Look people I know all this trust me I take all my meds like im told until they are gone. I got on her for not taking it all like she is suppose to. I was asking to prove a point.
You never want to use left over antibiotics. Antibiotics need to be taken in a certain course. If you dont take them long enough you can cause the bacteria from the infection to become antibiotic resistant. Many ear infections are viral in nature and antibiotics are not helpful. She should really see her heathcare provider.
