My dog used to take both. Tramadol is an opioid like drug for pain and Rimadyl is an anti-inflammatory drug for painful inflammation.
Tramadol is a synthetic opioid, Rimadyl is an NSAID. Tramadol won't do anything for pain caused by inflammation, Rimadyl will. Does your dog have arthritis?
