... and exercise. I have COPD and I take Spiriva, Zyban and Albuterol and I am scared to take the medicines (Metformin 1000 mg and Pravastatin 40mg tabs) that my doctor gave me because of all of the side effects and drug interactions.

This advice sounds nice, but I think is terribly inaccurate. See an endocrinologist-- try 2-3 different ones before settling. You'll likely get different opinions from each. Go with the treatment that suits you best. Everybody is different.
I have had diabetes 6 years and I control mine with diet and exercise. As long as I (5' 4" female) keep my weight under 150 I keep good blood sugar.
Hi CSIKennedy,
Bravo! But you are on medication do you? Please tell me what medication you are taking and what is your diet plan. Sunshine 2100
Yes, basicaly the diabet came from obesity, so if you had a control for your meals, you can reduce the diagnostic, and it is esay to follow, just do some excersice minimun fo 30 min a day like walk, then eliminate the salt, don't drink sodas, use splenda instead of regular sugar, use olive oil, eat maximum 2 carbohydrates in each meal, remember you must eat 5 times a day, there a 3 meals and 2 snack, and drink water.

With type 2 diabetes, the main focus is on weight control, because 80% - 90% of people with this disease are overweight. A meal plan, with reduced calories, even distribution of carbohydrates, and replacement of some carbohydrate with healthier monounsaturated fats helps improve blood glucose levels.

Hi, Suzanne66,
I was diagnosed with diabetes about two years ego. I had a very high blood sugar. Now my reading is normal. It does not mean that I am free of diabetes. Thanks to my endocrinologist, to the Actos and Onglyza as well as eating very small portion of food only three times per day.
People who has diabetes must always learmn about themselves, be in touch with a support group and establish by themselves what to eat and what should be avoided. I find out that I could not follow the recommendation regarding what to eat and how much, which many authors recommend.
I did not gain weight since I got this illness. However, I learned that the weight increase in many cases came from retention of fluid in the body.
My endocrinologist like to hear my questions as well asa my suggestions. Despite that theoretically every day readings indicates that I reversed the diabetes, I am always on alert and always think what to eat and what not. I eat small portions of food, which includes moderate carbohydrate food because it supplys me with energe. I cook myself and dont't go to eating places. I establishe my own menu and it works for me.
It was very difficult to eat very small portion of food. But gradually I used to them
If anyone has acid reflex? What is the name of the medication your doctor prescribed?
Good luck to everybody. Share with your experiences. Sunshine 2010
A blood sugar level of 136 is actually good try having one at 80 then shooting up to maybe 360 then within 10 minutes down to 90. I deal was dealing with this unstableness for quite some time. I wake up to between 80 and 90 in the morning, eat eggs wheat toast and a half a cup of tea and my sugar may go to 120 then immediately drop to the 80's. I have anemia as well and it does not help. So I continue on a wheat very low carbohydrates diet teas and my weight is at 177 currently. i was on glucophage which does excellent for type 2 diabetes yet it caused me to become nauseous but if my sugar ever went extremely high , that medicine is a good controller. I am on actos it somehow give you additional energy so I walk more to rid the small bulge in the stomache area. Has anyone taken this medication it seems to work well for me at this point in my life facing menopause vtech10
