I am getting a cold and I know most if not all decongestants can cause major problems while taking Cymbalta. What can I take? Anything to clear my head and thin mucus is what I'm looking for, please help.
What decongestant can I take with 30mg Cymbalta a day?

Hi. According to the drug interaction checker there is no interaction with Mucinex. However, if it has other agents besides guaifenesin, there may be problems. The presence of alcohol being one thing to avoid because of less effectiveness and potential liver problems.
I am able to take the basic Mucinex without problems and I have drugs that are restrictive with all kinds of things. Saline spray is very helpful. Don't worry, though. The best thing about a cold is if it is treated it lasts seven days and if you cannot it only lasts a week! Ciao. Karen
I've taken cymbalta for years and used sudafed along with it with no problems whatsoever. But if that makes you uncomfortable, you might try using a simple saline nasal spray. That should help thin the mucous and allow you to blow it out. Saline is simply a salt water solution and won't interact with your medication.

Try plain Mucinex, not Mucinex DM. It should help your symptoms and is ok to take with Cymbalta.
I have been taking Cymbalta 60 mgs a day for years and have never had a drug interaction with a decongestant or any other OTC medication. I've heard there maybe minor interactions with Sudafed... at best.
The only interaction that is really a problem is other prescription medications that have effect on the Serotonin in the brain - these are pain killers like Tramadol. They cause seizures but again... these are prescription meds.
Other than that... no problem.
Thanks, but I've had two doctors and the Pharmacists say decongestant are off limits, so I have to think they are right. I'm thinking there may be a natural remedy. One of the two doctors did say that things with D are less risky than DM. But, who knows.
Wow..well, I can only tell you my experience. You can go online and check the interactions. Good luck.
Thanks. Appreciate your input.
