I took my first pill this morning and I had a horrible reaction. I got stomach cramping, and diarrhea really bad. I also felt dizzy, and unbalanced. Is this normal?
I'm scared to take my dose tomorrow

I am on my 4th week of Contrave. I had severe cramping in my pelvic area. The cramps have eased up, but the stiffness & soreness in my neck have been unbearable. I am also very tired, and have an abnormal feeling. I get tired taking a shower or getting dressed. I want to start exercising more, but dont feel up to it. I do get a nervous feeling at times. I want the results of the weight loss, but without these horrible side effects.
I had dizziness every time I increased dosage and it really never went completely away. I also felt heavy headed and then that never went away. My blood pressure increased and Dr. Increased my blood pressure med but that caused too much constipation. It also increased my kidney function tests so Dr. had me discontinue and I gained the 20 lbs I'd lost.
It did make me stop and think before I ate anything. The longer I took it, the stronger the side effects were.
OMG! I am at week 9 and this is the first week of severe symptoms. I have had awful nausea and vomiting. Now, I am experiencing severe cramping. It feels like the worst stomach cramping you can imagine. Side note: I had natural childbirth... twice. This crap HURTS!
Any results I have (lost 7lbs in 9 weeks) are not worth suffering through these horrible symptoms. I am amazed that the FDA approved Contrave. It's awful.
Side effects, um YES. For me about three weeks. Now I don't have any, it has helped my metabolism and appetite. But the first 3 weeks were very bad for me, wanted to quit, only reason I didn't was because I needed to ween off of them, and I was desperate for it to work. First day, was VERY bad. I learned to lay in my car for 20 mins everyday during work, not take it when I was going to drive, and it was very difficult to think at work. It felt like Inwas taking poison. I'm up to 4 pills and no notice of anything now. It's nuts!!
I have been on Contrave for 17 days. I love it. No issues whatsoever except one, dreaming all night long. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to sleep at all especially when I started taking the p.m. pill cause I'm pretty sensitive to medicines. I get tired a little later than normal (approx 30 minutes) but go right on to sleep and sleep all night. I don't take any other meds except Nexium and vitamin supplements. This pill helps me eat right and I have had enough energy for a change to add in some walking each evening so I'm pleasantly surprised it's going so well. I am not weighing til I go back to the doctor in two weeks but my clothes are fitting better, I'm eating better and feel better in general. Since it has the same drug in it that is in Wellbutrin, it helps with my moodiness also giving me a better outlook on life.
I'm sorry you're feeling that way. While I can't answer your question, I can share that my experience with Contrave has been awful. I feel dizzy, lightheaded, nauseous and completely zoned out. I can't focus and things taste odd. While I don't believe this drug is a narcotic, while taking it, I have the feeling I'm on a strong pain medicine. I didn't expect this to be a magic pill and negate the need for eating healthy and exercise but the side effects I'm experiencing have caused me to exercise less and want to curl up on the couch with a 7-Up and saltines. The obvious solution for me, after a month, is to stop taking it. No weight loss "nudge" is worth feeling like that. Studies may show it's safe and great but I felt terrible and the scale didn't budge.
I eel bad too and am freaked out by the list of side effects. This is only day 2, but just want to lay around. Feeling fuzzy/loopy too.
I just started contrave yesterday (Jan. 22nd, 2015) in the A.M. and I had some nausea later in the evening after eating dinner. This morning I ate breakfast and have some stomach cramps. I'm not happy to see some people still have nausea months later
I've been on Contrave for almost 2 months. At first I had nausea, headaches, an stomach issues. I stuck it out and it got better. I will say that the nausea has stuck around, but it only lasts about 30 to 45 minutes, but not every day. I take other meds too, so I have to wait and take those about 45 minutes after. I like the way it curbs my appetite and I'm not hungry ever. I've lost 21 lbs using this and exercise 4 times per week. I wish you all the luck on this drug.
Did stomach issue go away?I'm on it 3 day and pelvic pain is horrible.
Hi I'm on day 3 of contrave and day 1 I got sick to my stomach and very jittery and day 2 just jittery but it lingered all day so kind of afraid to keep tacking it. .cause I ride on a bus with special needs kids so please help
This is my first time on Contrave and I feel so sick to my stomach and loopy, but not hungry. I'm afraid to take another pill tomorrow. I can't work like this. I feel horrible. How long can I expect this feeling to last?
I've been on the pill for two weeks now and I'm so glad to here some positive news about Contrave. I am experiencing some nausea and dizziness but that's all. Hoping this works like it should for me.
The nausea has only gotten worse for me. It went away for a while (and I've been on it since end of October), but it is now back with a vengeance. I am going down on the med and will probably discontinue because it's so bad -- I even vomited yesterday. I am taking Zofran today to help with nausea but I'm still really nauseous and have a headache. I am SO disappointed because so far I have lost 12 pounds and loved it.
it's been a year since I took the med. lost 18 pounds in the first month because of the mild nausea.
Quit the drug after one month because the bitter, acrid taste in my mouth was literally unbearable.
Have gained back about half of my original loss and, after considering bariatric surgery, have decided to try contrave again. someone said that Biotene will help with the bitter taste. Hope it works. Does anyone have any suggestions how to deal with the taste issue?
When I first started I had dizziness and nausea. That went away but comes back each time I increase the dose. I'm hoping once I'm on a full dose for awhile it will even out. Does anyone else have strange dreams on this med?
I meant to say it came back when I increased the dose. I've only gotten to the 1 pill morning and 1 pill evening so far.
Yes, I dream like crazy with Contrave! And I sleep so soundly. Nausea is awful and I've been on it since October. Starting to go off Contrave because of it. Ugh!
I really think I'm going to talk to my Dr about a different medication.
Do any of you have any other recommendations for another?
Yes I have vivid dreams but not nightmares.
I was only on lyrica for 4 days and the side effect were tremendous, felt very over tired like I haven t slept in days unbalanced ,every time I d walk I almost fell so unsteady, eyes felt so dry n dry mouth, arms were even colder ,dizzy n light headed n felt like I was drunk.i cried a lot because I couldn t stand how I was feeling, anxious was terrible.Dr said to stop I was taking 75mgs 2 times a day.
Yes. Severe to the point of dehydration.
yes, i get frequent nightmares and migraines
! Im stopping it.
Hi, i would give your doctor a call to report your symptoms & see what he advises...
Are you on any other medication? The dizziness is pretty much a side effect that goes away pretty fast.
I had that happen as well. That did go away after a few days. But dizziness didn't. It caused my liver tests to be elevated so had to stop. I took Zoloft with it and that seemed to help with side effects and I had been on that fir a few months before starting Contrave.
