It is a far distance cousin of penicillin. Im allergic to penicillin and was prescribed clindamycin after a dentist appointment. Well now im in the ER with an allergic reaction. The doctor told me some people who are allergic to penicillin can take clindamycin and some people can't.
No it doesn't. If you doc knows you are allergic to these things, then he won't prescribe something you can't take. Also if you use the same pharmacy and they know you are allergic to these things, they will look out for things you can't take. Clindamycin is the generic name, and it does not add anything about penicillin, so you know it doesn't. Manufacturers can't sneak other drugs in a medication without telling you.
