I have taken Claritin D which my Dr. Recommended. I experienced extreme dryness as I would imagine a dehydrated person might. Is there another allergy drug which would work without this symptom?
I also suffer from acid reflux.

It is the "D" part that is drying you out so much. The "D" in Claritin D stands for decongestant because it had a decongestant called pseudoephedrine added to the Loratidine. Zyrtec, as Kaismama mentioned, is just an antihistamine. You can try that (it is my personal favorite for allergic rhinitis or "allergies" as well) or you might try plain Claritin (loratidine) which is available over the counter. It may help relieve symptoms wthout drying you out so much.
These medications all do dry you out some and therefore you CAN become dehydrated so you do need to increase your water intake while taking them. Water can help loosen dry secretions to make it easier to expel from your body when you blow your nose or cough up the secretions.
Thank u so much.
I take zyrtec and haven't noticed that with it.
Thank you.
claritin, claritin-d, claritin-d 12 hour, allergies, symptom
