... in that combination anymore. I have been on Oxycontins and dont want that again. Can anyone suggest a different pain pill, I will still be on the patches, I just need a new break through medicine and don't know what I should talk to my doc about. Thanks
Chronic Pain - I am prescribed the Fentanyl Patch 50mcg, and Hydrocodone 10/325mg. It isn't working?

Hello, I would start by letting your Dr know they are not helping with your pain and if you have a pain management Dr they seem to want to help for the most part. Ask if he will increase your Fentanyl and give you Oxycodone without the Tylenol and possibly increase that as well.
Best to you,

Are you still looking for a different pain pill option. And you still take your patches
I’d ask your Dr about increasing the dose of the fentanyl patch I actually use two patches I apply a100 patch the first day second day I use a 75 and continue that dose each patch is worn for 2 days then I use oxycodone #20 for breakthrough pain depending on the day anywhere from 3 and 6 pills a day just to get by. I use cyclobenzaprine and a sleeping pill at bedtime and I usually am able to get 3-4 hrs of sleep besides my chronic nerve damage I have stage 4 chronic kidney disease I hope that information helps
I also have chronic lower back pain. My doctor has me on 50mcg/hr fentanyl and 3-10mg. of oxycodone. I Change my patch every 48 hours. The patch only seems to last for about 24 hours! I need more break through medication!! How do you get a doctor to help or is there something to take the place of fentanyl and 10 mg. of oxycodone every 8 hours?
I was just prescribed Fentanyl patch 12mcg and Norco 10mg for extreme pain related to three knee replacement surgeries on the SAME knee over a 9 mos period. This was after using 40 - 60mg oxycodone daily for the past 9 mos. It appears to work quite well except without the Norco, the Fentanyl is not enough since the pain is horrendous. I am going in to get examined again today however I will be continuing the combination indefinitely. I asked to up the Fentanyl since my specialist wants me to use only the patch and use the Norco for breakthrough only, however I have to wait 3 wks before it can be increased, in order to give my body time to get used to it.
I don't know all your details but I would always think upping the maintenance pain med (fentanyl) is more important than messing with the breakthrough med. The goal is to prevent breakthrough, not have to treat it.
personally 30mg oxycodone is the best "Breakthrough" med in my opinion
Instant release
Ask to try Morphine Sulfate, IR (immediate release) or Oxycodone IR, Oxycontin & patches are not for breakthrough pain. Hope this helps.
I would suggest first you get your fentanyl patch increased. 50mcg is a pretty low dose. Oxycodone is probably the best for breakthro pain. I would stay away from anything with tylenol in it, since long term use of tylenol can lead to liver damage.
i fell three stories in 2005 and shattered several vertebrae and fractured several the thing about long term pain meds is your tolerance.. Ive been taking 75mg fentanyl patch by the third day doesnt seem as affective but now i also take 6 oxycodone 30mg daily with and seems to manage my pain not saying you need that many but you sure dont want anything long term with aspirin in it not good for the liver.. wish you luck in finding relief...
Norco has tylenol not aspirin, but thats what's hard on the liver.
Hi i am on 50mg fentanyl patch and duramine for pain. It is not touching my pain and i have to use crutches to walk or just stay indoors as i cannot walk. My GP has refused point blank to increase my patch and even though i am suicidal and under a mental health team due to bipolar , when i became very distressed and begged him to write me a letter to a swiss clinic where i would be able to die with dignity he juat told me to ring the samaritans. I have asked for another referral to a pain team but this will be my 4th one and they will just say "there is nothing we can do" again.
I cannot get my prescriprion filled on time , i cannot get help when i need it... i just dont know where to turn and i am trying to hang on
