I'm wondering how long it took for you Chantix users, past or present, to feel like you no longer needed or wanted to smoke? Tomorrow will be day 4 for me on Chantix and I can tell no difference. I know I'm jumping the gun a bit, but I've known several people to take it for only a couple of days and be sick at just the thought of smoking. Quit day is Sunday and I'm scared I won't be able to quit. Is there really a "magic" day when Chantix will just kick in?

I started last Wednesday afternoon. Continued smoking that evening. The next day didn't have a cigarette until after lunch. In a weeks time I have gone from a pack a day to yesterday I had 1/2 a cigarette. Today I had 2. But my urges are not too bad, I can usually work through them fine. I started with half the starter dose because I was too scared of the possible side effects (night mares , etc... ). I would rather it take twice as long and be effective then to go full force and they not work for me.
I started my first package of chantix, i took it for 3 1/2 weeks out of the 4 weeks then i stopped taking it and cigs started to stink. Smoking made me feel dizzy. So on April 24th i woke up and was smoking my morning cig and it made me barf... May 24th was my 1 month completely cig free. Its june 15th i am off chantix still and 100% still cig free... I feel amazing. I can breath alot better i dont cough alot... Best med ever.
6-8 weeks for real change. I've smoked 30 years- quit once for 4 years- and generally a pack/pack and a half a day.
I vowed that if Chantix didn't work I'd quit trying and just be a smoker to the end.
I had faith from all the testimonials I'd read that one day I would wake up and not want to smoke. That it would be like "magic". And it *was*.
I smoked as many as always for 2or3 weeks. I was starting to doubt... then it happened. One day I only smoked half a pack. I stayed at half a pack for a little while. Then 6-7 cigarettes. That went on a while. Then 3 cigarettes. Then 2. It was 2/day for a while. Then 1 cigarette every couple days.
I haven't smoked in almost 3 weeks and I'm off the Chantix as of day before yesterday. I weaned myself down from the full 2mg/day to half a gram every other day. Was on it just under 11 weeks total.
The last time i smoked was 3 drags, a week before that half a cigarette, a week before that a whole cigarette. No cigarettes in between.
I've gained 12 pounds. I Was crazy super hungry all the time for about 3 weeks. The hunger started when I started weaning off the Chantix.
For me, the whole "pick a quit date" was not right. I smoked all i wanted, when i wanted, and now i don't want it at all.
Day 8. Just took 1 mg, which is double the dosage I took the 1st week.Still smoking a pack a day,but I'm hoping today is a turning point.I find myself already NOT having a nicotine fit.I'm smoking because I'm used to it. I quit for 10 years starting in 1985,went into the hosp to have my daughter, and came out 2 days later not wanting one. Then I quit for a year, I quit for a week. This will be my last time. The problem with smoking,if you are dying from lung cancer,it's too late!! DONT wait. I had breast cancer last year, had the lumps removed, and said hell no on anything else. At the time, they saw a spot on one of my lungs.I haven't followed up,but then I feel ok,other than this $1000 a year habit! Crossing my fingers.
Hi I am a life time smoker and have been using chantix for 4 months. I knew I would need more time than others! I cut down from 1 1/2 packs a day to 11 a day over a 2 month period, then started chantix. With me it's always baby steps!! I want to stay on chanting for another month and as of today, I am shocked to say I have not smoked at all for one week! If you are not having side effects from chantix stick with it! I only felt it,really started working in 2 months.
I have been on chantix almost 2 weeks. Today i havent had the urge to smoke all day. Even around smokers! They smell awefull to me!
I have taken Chantix 4 times before this time. I did not feel a difference until the the 1 mg 2x/day kicked in with my first time. My first time taking it, I was successful at quitting for 1 1/2 years and then started up again when a lot of life changes happened at once. I felt no difference the 3x after, but I believe this was due to significant stress I was experiencing. This time I quit by day 7 (I decided now was a good time to try again since I'm not stressed anymore). I am now on day 15 and I barely think about cigarettes. Cravings are down to maybe once or twice a day. Once you quit, you will experience cravings, even after stopping Chantix. You just have to work through them. It helps to stay away from people who smoke and places where there will be smoking.
Experiencing nausea?
I have found that if I eat half of my meal, take the pill, and then finish my meal, that I experience no nausea.
I have been smoking for 35 years. I quit smoking in 2015 for 6 months using Wellbutrin and the patch but fell off the wagon and i blamed it on stress. I feel like it was going to kill me sooner or later so i decided to try again. I started taking Chantix on February 20th with no quit date. I felt like I started smoking more in the first week but gradually started smoking less and less. I've been smoke free for 3 days and have no urge. I'm excited because I knew if i could get rid of the urge, i could quit. its a disgusting habit that was cool when we were kids. God bless and good luck to all who try's to quit because it isn't easy.
Thanks good luck to you too
Hey there... my doc told me not to smoke on Day 7 but I continued. Eventually I just forgot to smoke. I did not put pressure on myself and kind of cheated with a few puffs here and there. I did eliminate the morning smokes with my coffee immediately though. I focused on the news and reading instead. I also made myself something to eat, which I never do... to take the pill. I am over 2 weeks smoke free and just got a refill. I'm hoping that I won't need anymore after this.
I started it about 3 weeks ago. At first the cigarette taste less like a cigarette. The cravings got less and less. I still get in my car and want to light up but it quickly passes. Just made it my quit date yesterday and also put on patch just in case. Some dreams but I do have Trazodone to help. The only thing is I am having leg cramps bad 4 nights in a row. I am going to try some organic gatorade. So far it has drastically reduce my urge to smoke. Very pleased. I will keep taking it and wean off patches as well. I am determine to keep my money and my health. I am so tired of being a slave to ciggs..this is the first time in years that I haven't had one. I was 2 packs a day. Good luck to all.** it took more than a week before I really started feeling it*
I have smoked for 40 years & as everyone else said tried everything including Chantix 7 yrs ago. It didn't work for me then but this time it's different... only on my 2nd week of taking it & 8th day of not even a puff off a smoke, I have had no side effects & still think about smoking but it passes quickly. I don't crave them at all just think about it.
3 1/2 years
I started to get Chantix November 16th. I was smoking with Chantix for 2 weeks as usual (7-8 cig.). After I started to smoke 4 cig. It was the last pack. I quit December 6. Today is my 11th day how I'm not smoking. I was smoking for 18 years. Now I don't have any minds to buy cig. My roommates are smoking at home. They can smoke when I'm with them. I don't want to join to them. If I feel like I want it I'm just drinking a water. I finished my first course of Chantix. I got another one. I'm going to taking them to be sure I quit!!! Sometimes I feel how my mood up and down and I can't smile or something like that. But I'm ok about it. I just try to build new life without cig.
I'm on day 20 of my chantix, and I don't feel any different, I'm worried that it's not working for me. I've read other responses from people, speaking of nausea, nightmares and other side effects. So do you all think I should say something to my Doctor, or should I just give it more time?
I'm with you i'm on day 14 and still smoke a pack a day. I had quit for eight years and that time I used the patch. I'm thinking I may go off this and try the patch again.
I am on my 3rd week, still smoking . That cigarette is not tasting bad yet. Getting frustrated
Today is my quit day I still think about cigarettes, still crave a cigarettes, still wanna cigarette more than anything. ... except to quit.
This is my second time in 45 yrs of smoking to try and quit. The 1st time I layed them on the altar at church and for 19 days I never even craved a cigarette... until.. I saw a kin person smoking, I asked for a drag and have been smoking every since.
My heart is into it, but I don't seem to be having ANY of the side effects good or bad. I really, really want to quit smoking. I am on day 11, my supposed quit day, my 55th birthday, I am so very down hearted. Anybody else have this happen? Thanks guys for any support out there.
I'm on day 11 still smoking. But less. have lots of nausea and feeling very weak no energy.
I am on day 20 of not smoking after smoking first 10 days on it. Slipped 2x & threw cig away . I felt weak & tired too, still do, but its getting a little better. I looked up everything & found plain withdrawal can cause that too. Once you've forgotten to smoke, its & may feel tempted about side effects, look up the side effects of just quitting. Kinda interesting. I never want to go through those first days again! God willing i'll never have to.
I'm on Chantix and I've always had to make sure I eat something when I take my pill and it helps with the nausea. Thought this might help you... don't give up.
