I've always had low/normal blood pressure (110/70). Four days ago I had a colonoscopy and the night before I had to drink Moviprep. I could barely tolerate the saltiness of that stuff! Well, I was fine until last night when I started feeling weak and a little ill. I decided to take my blood pressure and it was 147/85. I continued to check it periodically over an hour and it kept going up. I thought maybe my B/P monitor was wrong, so I went to the fire station around the corner and had them take it. It was 150/106. I have had a lot of doctors appointments lately for an unrelated issue and my B/P has always been its normal level at each visit. I've been told to just check it for a few days but I can't help worrying, which of course isn't helping matters. I feel that there must be some explanation for this sudden rise. I didn't find blood pressure listed as a typical potential side affect of Moviprep, but it was LOADED with sodium. I've been trying to drink plenty of water to flush it out of my system - if its even still in my system. Anybody know anything about this?
Can Moviprep cause blood pressure to rise?

I had the same thing happen to me. My colonoscopy was Thursday. At prep time, my BP was 185/110. After the procedure, it was still high. It didn't come down until Friday night back to my normal range of 120/80.
I also had a colonoscopy two days ago and my bp was 176/112 before having the procedure done. I also drank the Moviprep and was thinking that was the cause and one of the nurses told me likely that was the casue she said that stuff is full of salt. After two days it is still high150/90 I'm hoping it will go back down, no idea how long it will take to get all that out of my system. This is pretty scary, wonder how many people had strokes or heart attacks?
My bp stayed elevated for about 9 days after PEG-+EL prep and colonoscopy. I just happened to have a scheduled visit to a cardiologist 2 days after and found out that my BP was high. They recommended a home monitor and it was high for about 8 days. I only drank about 1/2 of what was recommended (thankfully), didn't take the pills and still had this problem. I won't likely have a coloscopy again- just not worth the risks. I am curious if others have this problem- their ages, any other known risks> I have some thyroid nodules, am recently post -menopausal and have hot flashes, but otherwise I never had high blood pressure in the past. This is an important finding.
All my life I always had excellent blood pressure, that changed after I had a colonoscopy during the procedure my blood pressure dropped so low they sent me to the emergency room and ever since then my diastolic pressure is always over a 100 and now they want to put me on blood pressure medicine is this some type of Master Plan?
Did you ever get an answer to this? I too just had the same thing happen. My blood pressure had consistently been around 110 / 75 for a long time. When taking the MoviPrep, it went to as high as 140 / 102 and today (3 days later) is still 135 / 90.
You should see your doctor if your blood pressure continues to stay high. Moviprep is unlikely to be the cause.

Moviprep IS the cause!!! By the time I arrived for my colonoscopy, I was shaking, and my bp was 200/196. Caused by the Moviprep!

Just finished taking Sureprep for colonoscopy tomorrow. I am 71 and my bp is usually about 118 over 75. It is now 181 over 111. Of course it is now just after 5pm. so called the gastroenterologist on duty at the hospital. He said very doubtful that it was the Sureprep. Said if anything it should go down. Having read the comments here I assume that he hasn't a clue. Told me to take a reading in 30 mins and to go to the ER if still high. Great! I can't leave my bathroom at the moment. Will have to hope for the best but am scared. Also have to drink another 1.5 liters tomorrow before the procedure. Will call my Cardiologist.
If this happens to you, lying down is supposed to lower your bp somewhat.
