Can amlodipine cause constipation ? Why?

•swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
•headache
•upset stomach
•stomach pain
•dizziness or lightheadedness
•drowsiness
•excessive tiredness
•flushing (feeling of warmth)

Yes, any calcium channel blocker can cause constipation. It relaxes the gut muscles and slows down the stomach movement, this a possibility of causing constipation and chronic at that. I take Amlodipine and have chronic constipation now to the point of not feeling well. I was never this constipated before on any drug like I am on this one other then Clonidine, and it was not as severe as what I am experiencing on Amlodipine. I just started using Organic Psyllium to see if it helps, so far it helped some but not a lot.

I don't know where you searched but Amlodipine can cause severe constipation and even blockage in the intestines. One case reported a woman having to be out on life support over her intestinal blockage from Amlodipine. I have never had constipation before I took this drug but do now with severe pain in my stomach as of late. Going to see Dr. soon to check for any possible blockage. This drug has some potentially dangerous side effects.

Hi, it can cause constipation (common side effect) if it goes on contact your doctor.
Now why does it cause it, you would have to ask your doctor/pharmacist
I am sorry for I do not have all the answers, and the ones who think they do are the biggest fools on this planet... just a thought.
