My understanding is that Wellbutrin (bupropion) works only if one takes it consistently. Does anyone use it sporadically, more like based on what you feel like that day? My husband gets prescriptions for a daily dose of 450mg, but doesn't take it on regular basis. I don't know why his doctor prescribed it to him, as he doesn't have any evident condition typically associated with the med. He may stay on the med for a few days to a few weeks but then stop taking it, or he might take an irregular dose. Could his moody outbursts be due to the inconsistent use of the medication? There are times he just seems "hormonal." I don't know how they correlate with his meds. Just wondering if anyone could share their experience getting on and off of bupropion.
Thanks.

Hi, Sade!
Your husband could talk to his doctor about why the medication was prescribed and how to take it properly. 450mg is the highest recommended dosage so I'd have to think that the doctor felt there were significant reasons to prescribe it.
"How should I take bupropion?
Take bupropion exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended."
It needs to be taken consistently to be effective. The drug needs to stabilize on a therapeutic level and this can take days to weeks.
Personally, I've taken bupropion for several years now and am very happy with the results.
Best regards.
