The mean elimination half-life of Brilinta is reported to be 7 hours and 9 hours for the active metabolite in healthy adults.
The half life of a drug is how long it takes for 1/2 of the amount in you to be cleared out of your system. For a drug to be totally eliminated from your system it takes roughly 5.5 times the half life.
If we take the maximum time of 9 hours times 5.5 then Brilinta will be eliminated from your system approximately 45 hours (2 days) after your final dose. It is eliminated mainly through the liver.
Other factors also need to be taken into account and include:
1. How much and how often you have taken the drug.
2. Your metabolic rate – a slower metabolism will increase the time a drug remains in your system.
3. Your age and health – older age and poor health will generally increase the time the drug stays in your system.
4. Body mass – generally the bigger you are the longer a drug will remain in your system.
Hope this is of help.
