Please name certain med, that will not cause Weigh Gain. I take Amelodopine, Besylate, Losatran Potassium, Hydrochlorothoyzoide to conytol BP. As it is still running high BP (150-100), my doc added Bystolic. But this is a Beta Blocker and causing me rapid weight gain! I had this same problem earlier with Metoprolol before.
I am vising a different cardiologist, next week. Please suggest some med I can ask the doc about that will NOT cause weight gain?

Losartan has caused weight gain for me. Dramatic weight gain over a period of 10 months. Others have reported the same from what I have read.
Also - I disagree with a previous poster from 2011 on drugs.com who wrote the following: "Weight gain is not listed as a possible side effect of Losartan" which pops up on Google searches. This is false. Weight gain IS listed as a possible side effect of Losartan.
There is a study comparing one aspect of lisinopril and losartan: "lisinopril improved insulin sensitivity whereas losartan did not affect it." Whether this is related to my weight gain is purely speculative. I have noticed increased hunger when taking losartan.
I have used lisinopril and was better able to control my weight and had no bad side effect like coughing. Both drugs were great for high blood pressure. YMMV
I'm seeking same of you log back in with an updated report. Mayo says yes that the older BBs do cause weight gain.

Hello, I have the same problem with weight gain from Diltiazem HCL as well as all the drugs you mentioned. This is so very counterproductive since I've gained
30 pounds in 2 years after a foot injury... gained 4 pounds in a week since starting Diltiazem. I'm on the verge of quitting meds for my BP, 150/100.
Let me know if you have found a new med.
Thanks and Happy Holidays.
You must react to them way differently. Its unusual for bystolic to have weight gain. It can happen but its not common. I've taken beta blockers since I was 43 and I'm 67. It never played into my weight.
My fiance takes metoprolo tartrate for sometime now and he has not gained any weight from it.
