The extreme burst of energy could be a sign that he is on suboxone, however, extreme happiness to me would not be. Of course, nodding off when he is sitting still for very long could be a sign of either. Suboxone stays on the receptor sites for 5 days, so, he could be using it every few days and calling that occasional. I found that when I have that burst of energy with the suboxone, I am getting close to being well enough to lower my dose. I wouldn't say erratic behavior is a sign either, but, it could be that there are some emotional issues that have made him use heroin or suboxone. If you can get him to take a urinanalysis ( and I am pretty sure you can't ) suboxone won't show on a home drug test. It will only show on a test that checks specifically for buprenorphine, if he came up positive for any other opiate, he is not on suboxone.
Sound more like he's high on heroin. Buprenorphine is a drug which stops cravings and withdrawals. You don't get high off it. Using this drug illegally is dangerous and he could put himself into precipitated withdrawals which make normal heroin withdrawals look easy. A lot of addicts are not aware of the drugs they are taking and what they really do. Your son is abusing the suboxone probably when he can't get his heroin. You need to toss him out if he still lives at home so that you are not providing him with the means to continue to abuse. No money, no board,no anything unless he wants to get into rehab and do it the right way. I am a parent and luckily my kids don't touch drugs but I myself and both of my parents were addicts. Tough love is what you have to do otherwise you are enabling him to continue with his illegal activities and he may even end up dead. Be tough on him and make him think.
Most likely he will tell you to go to hell and leave but that's ok. In time heroin addicts either get into recovery or they die. Have you honestly ever seen a old heroin addict??? Anyway, good luck to you and I hope your son gets into recovery, it can take years to start recovery so you may have to be patient. It took me almost 25 years before I got into recovery...
hi vrich, my name is subzero58 for reasons we wont get into right now. extra energy is definitely a sign of someone on subs. if he is staying off of heroin them suboxone's are saving his life. belive me spending 10 bucks on a pill that is gona keep him off of the poison that's on the streets. im sure if you had your way he would be sobor today.if anyone of my friends had this wonder drug 10years ago they would still be alive. I have been on subs for 8 months and my life has changed for the better. i go to a methadone clinic in pennsylvania that also has suboxone treatment. i see all these young kids drinking that poison "methadone" every day. Out of 250 people on my clinic only 8 of us are on suboxone. most of the people wana change to subs but are on too high of a dose. you should be happy your son chose the suboxone rout and not the other. subs for the first month make you feel like your son is feeling now.
soon that feeling is gona wear off and thats when you will find out if he realy wants to help himself. buying them on the streets is still risky. tell him to find a clinic in your area, sub doctors are exspencive right now. and we are hopping that will change. if you love your son and im sure you do if your taking the time to find out more about suboxone and its effects. GOD BLESS YOU and YOUR SON. if u ever want to find out more about this feel free to text me at drugs.com im ... subzero58
