Sorry for your issues and hope for all who are having the same types of problems. I have just been put on Adderall XR 20 mg's twice a day. First day I took it mind was at ease, remembered better, and was able to sit and talk to my wife with a conversation. But now after the 5th day, something has gone wrong, I'm more tense, mind spins a little more, and very very unsociable. Ritalin 20 mg's 3 times per day didn't do nothing. But one day I took 2 20 mg's pills after I woke up took a shower. And it worked very very well. But, it only lasted 30 minutes at best. I'm the kinda person if I have to take more than prescribed I don't won't it. I wish there was a very long acting Ritalin I can take maybe 2 pills a day and that's it. I'm leaning heavily on that Adderall XR isn't right for me. I was going to ask about Vyvanse on my next doctor visit, Seems more people have better results. P.s I very much hope you find what is best for u! GL friend!
i tried taking adderall by its self and was the same way, i would become depressed, sad and mean. i then put it with paxil, which everyone says is dangerous, but it works great for me. i am so happy and have energy, i love being with my family again, i even love my dog again, haha. it has been the best thing i ever did for my self. i think the paxil is really helping but it left me not caring about anything. i would not clean or do laundry, i had a who cares feeling. but i felt good about it. then i got put on adderall and now i clean, do laundry, and play with my kids all in between. its great!!!
Great post! Reading some1 elses progress and found the right medicine is awesome. Great for you and your family. Be proud of what youv'e accomplished. Because you and everyone else knows it's very hard to find the right medicine that does what it is doing for you. Very inspire able post! GL with future. Ty for letting people read this. :)
I agree with some of the other posts... this sounds like the wrong med for you hon. check with your doctor and see if you can try another med or this med at a lower dose if that is possible for you. good luck to ya!!
Yes,it can do that. Regular Adderall is a short acting medicine. There is Adderall XR-extended release. That may do better for you. The Vyvanse makes me feel a little down in the evenings but I'm switching back to it from the Daytrana patch. Daytranas irritating my skin way too much. I hope you find a medicine that works for you.
I'm on the CR time release it calms me down but makes me real ill do u think if I take a higher dose of adderall that help? I was on the vyanse it did not help mad me really sick and bad hot flashes
You might not be able to tolerate the amphetamine stimulant that's found in Adderall or Vyvanse. Maybe you could try Ritalin, another type of stimulant. If you have the same reaction to Ritalin, you might need to try the non-stimulant type ADHD meds.
Adderall is Ritalin based
ugh my seven year old daughter is on adderall and she is having mixed emotions all the time and i don't like it
I've taken Adderall and found it to help me focus and think a little clearer, but when it wears off I drop to an intense low, depressed mood. The stimulant then intense low affect it had on me was too much to handle. Everyone responds differently. But I and others I know have experienced the same affects to mentioned.
My 7 yr old has crying spells when it first kicks in and when it wears off
he has really bad mood swings and sometime bad rages. It is starting to depress me to see my child go thru this.
@tamika I can only imagine how hard it would be for a 7 year old to adjust emotionally to the way this medication affects them. Its hard for an adult. Has your son been diagnosed with ADD? Does it calm him and help him focus? If it doesn't atleast provide some therapuetic benefit then whats the point?
Ask his doctor about adding tenex or clonidine to the stimulant they are both a non stimulant that works great with those meds to control those problems usually given later in the day for just that purpose
@tamikacaldwell adderall and other amphetamine-based stimulants can stunt children's growth amongst other side-effect. please take this into careful consideration before giving it to your son. i believe adderall may have stunted my growth and i didn't even start taking it until i was 17. if i had been warned about this side effect i probably wouldn't have taken it. remember boys aren't fully grown until they are about 22 or 23 i believe.
Tamika, I too can relate to your concern with Adderall. I have a 5 year who has been diagnosed with ADHD and he currently takes Adderall. Yes, he has been doing better in school but he is always in a bad mood and crying. He seems more angry, easily frustrated, and very sentimental when asking for something. I have told his doctor about it and suggested that he talks to a therapist for a second time. I don't believe that medicine alone is always the answer. My husband and I don't want him on Ritalin because we have never heard anything positive about it especially from those who have taken it for themselves.
I’m 26 and I’ve been taking adderall and I feel great when I take atleast 15 mg ..I don’t take the full 30mg daily I make them last ..but the side effects of it wearing down on me ..I feel anxiety, stressed , very irritated, can’t seem to focus , my head hurts cause I’ve been dehydrated all day working and not drinking enough water , I feel so sad for me but especially a small little child going through what I’m going through ..adderall I believe shouldn’t be taken at such a young age especially 5 ..I know this post is old and it’s none of my business but it hurt me to read about a small child taking adderall.
This is something you need to discuss with your prescriber. It could be that this is the wrong medication for you. There are a variety of treatments available for ADHD. Just because one stimulant doesnt work, doesnt mean another wont. There are also non-stimulant varieties of medications. It is very common to have to do a bit of trial and error with medications for this condition. Dont discount the importance of couseling too. Counseling and CBT can help you to develop better coping mechanisms in dealing as an adult with ADHD.
Great answer as always Dzoo. I have taken medication for ADHD my whole life and have taken several of the medications for it. For example I was taking VyVance, and was doing great on it, until I though it wasn't working well enough. So I changeg it (well dr. did) to Adderrall 30mg twice a day. I, now wish I would have stayed on the VyVance. It was still working... I was just being too daggum picky. But Dzoo it correct. Don't get discouraged because one doesn't work for you. Good luck finding another one that will. Ruthie. And, Dzoo, I hope everythings as good as can be expected in your world. Will have to send you a PQ. soon. Take care. Ruthie
