Also, what about Albuterol - how does that fit into the other drugs?

There is a big difference. Qvar is a steroid and is used daily to decrease inflammation and swelling in the lungs (bronchial tree). It is not a "rescue" inhaler. Albuterol and ventolin are the same drug. It is a broncodilator, meaning it opens the bronchial tree so you can breathe. It can be used daily, but it also can be used as a rescue inhaler.
Kaismama,I've been on the Albuterol for a lot of years and my doctor now has prescribed me the Qvar,1 puff orally 2 times daily and I'm concerned that it being a steroid,is it alright to take this steroid inhaler indefinitely?
Qvar is taken similar to advair, alvesco and other steroid inhalers. I've been on it a few years. There are 2 strengths 2 puffs of 40 and 1 puff of 80. Each taken twice a day. As with other types of steroids you must rinse and gargle afterwards to avoid thrush/candida.
Thanks tess 1938,I'm aware that you've got to rinse and gargle afterwards. My only concern is that it is a steroid and being on it indefinitely down the road if there's a serious problem that I should be aware of?
