I have been on the QVAR inhaler since April of this year for a more moderate type of Asthma, and it does not work as well as I want it to. Like I will have to use my rescue inhaler at least once a day to help me feel better. Sometimes that dont even work. I go to my doctor in a few days, should i try asking him about Advair? Just wondering if I could have some opinions about Advair, for those of you who have used it.

Advair Diskus and Qvar are both preventative inhaled medicines used to treat asthma and COPD ( chronic obstructive respiratory disease). They are taken daily regardless of whether you have trouble breathing or not.
The difference between the medicines is that Advair Diskus is a combination drug that contains two drugs, a LABA or long-acting beta agonist namely salmeterol, and the corticosteroid fluticasone.
The long-acting beta agonists work by relaxing the muscles of the airways within the lungs which leads to easier breathing, while the corticosteroids work to decrease inflammation and swelling in the airways.
Qvar contains only one medicine, a corticosteroid, beclomethasone.
It is the job of your doctor to work with you to find the best combination of medicines to control your asthma. If your symptoms are not controlled by front line medicines such as Qvar then your doctor may turn to Advair diskus. The addition of the LABA offers additional control for many.
