Have been having stuffy nose/ sinus congestion problems that seem to get worse an hour or two after I take my Flomax and let up a bit after about 24 hours pass. Stuffy nose is listed as a side effect but the statistics are not real decisive. Am wondering if other folks are having the same/ similar experiences.
Are other people on Flomax experiencing stuffy nose/sinus congestion problems?

Dear Curtis,
Recently my doc put me on Flomax. I took it only 3 days. Had very stuffy and dry nose leading a small nose bleed. Also sinus congestion and pressure over the eyes. Reported this to doc who switched me to Proscar. So far no bad side effects from Proscar. From research, I think Flomax works faster than Proscar. But Flomax is not an option for me. Hope my experience helps you.

Thanks a lot Kenny. I haven't heard of Proscar yet. I will see my new urologist again in another week. He thinks I have an inflamed and over active bladder and prescribed vesicare. My previous urologist thought I had an enlarged and constant inflammation of the prostate (prostatitis) and prescribed flomax. Vesicare didn't help me any so I am temporarily taking the flomax for some relief until i see him again for our next step. My symptoms are weak stream, start/stop, difficulty emptying, incomplete emptying, and frequent trips to bathroom.
Thanks,
Curt
Curtis,
Hope your doc will let you try Proscar. It is working for me.
Kenny Ray, again.
Thanks Kenny.
My doctor has confirmed through a cystoscopy that I have interstitial cystitis (chronic inflamation of the tissues in the bladder wall). He's put me on a longtime antibiotic (macrodantin). It helps a lot with the start and stops and incomplete emptying but makes me kinda groggy. I also have changed my diet and try to avoid foods and beverages that irritate the bladder such as spicy foods, sweeteners, and citric acids. It's kind of a bummer but I'm glad I've been correctly diagnosed.

Tamsulosin (Flomax) definitely has caused my stuffiness and slight dizziness.I take it perhaps every other day or every third day.I take Finisteride ( Proscar) daily however it is not as good as Flomax.
Learning to live with it.
I looked up Proscar, unfortunately it says a possible side effect is Prostate Cancer. There are a few of these Drugs that state that. I'm new here, so if you know something I don't please let me know.
I too, am having this same problem. I also experience dryness in my eyes and throughout my sinuses. I do have allergies though but I receive shots regularly for that. The flomax definitely causes stuffiness and congestion for me too.

When I first used Flomax months ago, I did not have any ptoblems other than my Blood Pressure being low. To the point that when I am taking Flomax, I skip taking my Lisinopril.
I don't like taking drugs, so I only use Flomax when I need it. But this time, and I've been on it for 3 weeks, my nose feels like someone poured cement inside and left it to dry. I thought I just had a sinus problem, but this is total blockage, so I can only breathe through my mouth. I will not take Flomax tonight and the next month or so, until I need it. Thanks to this site another other sites like it, I was able to Google "Flomax and BPH" and find out the culprit was Flomax. Is there a better BPH drug without this side effect? Thanks in advance.
It's unfortunate that no one has responded ... none of the reviews mention anything about having stuff nose problems. But as you say it is a known side effect so can happen. If it is really bothersome please discuss with your doctor.
They probably won't be able to give you any medication to counteract the problem as decongestant medicines may aggravate the prostate problem.
