I have tried a lot.. first one I tried was Prozac. It made my heart race. I find the newer SSRI's to have less side effects. I have been on brand name Lexapro for 12 years. 10 mg. Tried many generic Lexapro and they don't agree with me. I have to pay full price for Brand name.. my insurance won't pay for brand name even with many doctors requests. LUPIN pharmacy has the best generic Lexapro by comparison to other generics. The effectiveness of generic verses brand name can vary. Like 15 mg of generic can equal 10 mg of brand name in effectiveness. BUT... the side effects are worse. Like insomnia, libido. Every generic FEELS different. They should make insurance companies pay for brand name if a person needs it.
I have taken 35 meds in the last three years for a treatment resistant depression and terrible anxiety . Absolutely nothing has worked for me . I also take Klonopin. I have for over three years which isn’t good but I was supposed to taper off that once I found something to work . I am now on Paxil for the third time through this and they have just added lithium . I am not bipolar but sometimes lithium is added to an antidepressant for treatment resistant depression. I’m not having any luck so far . My life has been turned upside down by all of this . Don’t mean to be negative and your post was awhile ago so I sure hope you found something to help .
Oh my gosh I tried at least 10 before I found lexapro and then after 2 years it just stopped working so I had that going for me but the I found Wellbutrin and added lamictal with it and it's been 3 years I hope you find your right combo don't give up
Yes! It is a metter or trial and error and finding thr right med can be depressing in itself. Everyone has a different chemical make up so it takes time to find the right one. Hang in there better days ahead!
I had to try a lot of meds b4 I found one that worked for me
Really what do you suffer from ? Did you ever try paxil what works for you
Yea some work some dont some are more effective for OCD. Prozac's effect was unbearable for me increasing stomach pain the longer I took the medicine so I stopped. Paxil didn't work at all. Now I am on Celexa which is working but I think it's working more for my social anxiety and not for my GAD I plan to ask the doctor for something else to augment or replace it next appointment.
CAn you tell me how long you were on paxil
I was on Paxil for two months luckily I had no side effects or withdrawal effects but I also didn't feel any change to my anxiety so was a placebo for me.
There is no one size fits all, so its trial and error until you find one that works. How long are you giving it to work, it can take 4-6 weeks before you see effect. And what doses have you tried?
I have waited past 6 weeks and went up in doses do you think paxil can help me do you know anyone who takes it and it works for
Over the years I've had quite a few patients on it and they did well with it.
Will I have to wait another 4 to 6 weeks with paxil to see if it works even though I'm transitioning straight of lexapro which I was on for we'll over 7 weeks (it didn't work)
It doesn't usually work to just switch, because of the withdrawal from one med and taking a month for the new one to work. You should taper down one, while at the same time increase the dosing of the new one.
I didnt taper just switched told that was ok is it not ok? Now I'm on paxil 4 weeks 3 weeks on 20 Mgs and 1 week on 30 no difference not helping at all yet what do u think?
I think I may have tried them all; not actually true, but I have been on many different SSRIs in the last 15 years, it feels that way. Some worked for a while, some didn't work at all. I have even used some SNRIs.
Since the exact way that SSRIs work is not known, and they all work on a different type of serotonin, they are all different. The bad part is that they take at least 6-8 weeks to see if they are going to work and 12 weeks for full effectiveness. It feels like a search for the magic pill. Your doctor is really trying to find what works for you.
I found mine in 2011 in Viibryd, but everyone is different. Work with your doctor and have faith. The right combination can be found.

Thanks so even if a medicine doesn't work in one class another one could right
That is correct. Even within the same class, one drug may work while another may not. Work with your psychiatrist and you will get there.
Good Luck.

Same as you, I've been on just about all of them, most worked, but after 1-2 yrs. maybe less, they no longer worked. Prob.worst thing is how long it takes to see if they work-that time can be doubled, if you try higher dose. Then start the whole process over. Good luck.
I have no experience with depression anxiety meds, but recently when I was on metoprolol for bp and when i tried to get off the medication due to it's extreme side effects, i went into a panic attack and my bp went on a spiral.
Following day, even though I was on another med, i had taken half tab of the Sym Pack V which my Dr tells me that it will calm my nervous system. It did so well that when my BP had gone really high up, I did not panic at all. Perhaps you should consult a naturopath/ homeopath to see if this can help you.
