I'm losing hair on the top of my head and the only thing I can attribute it to is a change in my blood pressure meds. Last fall my doctor changed me from Diovan HCT to Losartan 100mg. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?
Has anyone experienced hair loss when taking Losartan?

OMG yes, I’m virtually almost bald. I’ve addressed this several times & keep getting blown off. I’ve experienced scalp burn several years ago @ job picnic. The scalp peeled several days after bad head ache. The following year I wore head gear & it happened again. The 100 mg. is the highest dosage. Has any medical professional addressed your Alopecia? Also have you had any other side effects? I had interesting conversation with Pulmonologist about possible allergic reactions he said that could also be Losartan related.
DO NOT LET THESE DOCTORS IGNORE YOU ITS 100% LOSARTAN 100% DM ME . IVE PUT HUNDREDS hundreds of hours into my case against losartan my doc who chose to CHOSE to ignore my signs changed my records to absolve his responsibility.

Nope
Yes. I noticed hair loss after a couple of months. I had to switch back to Valsartan, and my hair recovered after a month or two.
I started losartan 2 months ago, my hair is falling out every day. I've never had that happen so quickly. For a woman it's very depressing, adding anxiety too. Seeing a doc this morning, but as I looked none of the BP meds are "user friendly", they all have side effects. I got off amlodipine because it made my feet swell to the point that I had to order shoes one size larger and wide. I suppose I'll take that over a hair loss and being depressed because of it. We'll see what the doc says.
Absolutely! I had no idea what is causing my extreme hair loss until I kept reading about the side effects of the different kinds of drugs I have been prescribed. Holy cow! I can see my scalp in my front and crown area all the way to the nape of my neck.
Yes! I started having hair loss when I started taking Losartan (I don't remember now how long before it started but it wasn't long) so my doctor changed it and now take Amlodipine and Lisinopril (I think that's how you spell them) and the hair loss is still happening, but not as fast. After speaking with my doctor about it, I started taking Biotin a few weeks ago to try to help get some of it back. It's supposed to help with hair and nails... we'll see. Talk to your doctor first before you take anything like that though. Good luck!
Yes. I asked to be taken off Lisinopril. I was prescribed Losartan; everything was fine when I was on the 50 mg. My hair grew back from the Lisinopril. Recently, my meds had to be increased to Losartan 100 mg- so now, again, there is hair loss! I have bottles left of the 50; I plan to use these after a break from any BP med, then I plan to speak with my medical doctor. Big Pharma is not my friend! Hopefully, I will be able to find natural ways in which to handle my BP. I have thick, below the shoulder hair. It’s usually shiny and easy to manage. These meds make my hair dry and there is widening at the part, near the front. Definitely, I will contact the ‘FDA’.

Yes! When I condition my hair I get complete strands of hair in my hands and the amount of hair in the drain is simply frightening. Been on it for six months and I’m going to see the doc to taper off it. Not due to hair loss but insomnia. I like my hair on my head and not in the drain.
Yes, I have noticed quite a bit of hair loss in just over a month.
It most definitely is Losartan. I had such bad side effects from trying eight different blood pressure medicines that I went to all natural alternative medicine. I take HTN 180 and don't eat any fast food or salt. I have found that one glass of red wine also lowers my blood pressure. Start a journal of everything you put in your mouth every day. A lot of over-the-counter drugs like Aleve Sudafed etc will also raise your blood pressure. You can fix this on your own without pharmaceuticals
What is HTN? What else do you do to keep under control?
HTN 180 is an all natural supplement containing Hawthorne berry and a few other ingredients that helps lower Blood pressure.
Hopefully. I have a boat ton of food allergies and it’s exhausting avoiding all them AND worrying about high potassium foods. But my cholesterol is high too since I depend on dairy for protein.
So how do you get your sodium?

I started taking losartan 100/25 hctz and my hair has been falling out really bad.bi have thick hair and have never seen this before. I actually have bald spots on top of my head! I thought it was my orencia but orencia doesnt do it. I've been looking to see of it's a new med and I just got on losartan. Now this may be the reason. I literally have bald spots.
Wow! So glad I found this because I was put on this med 27 Oct recently (2021) & noticed my normally thick wavy hair becoming flat, lifeless, straight as a stick, & falling out on top. The middle part has gotten really thin in only 1.5 months. And the doc wants to increase the dosage IF my BP doesn't come down. I don't need to lose any weight, now take a beet supplement so may double/triple that. Obviously I do not want to have a stroke (150/90) but being female don't plan on going bald in the process to avoid that. This allegedly 1% side effect came on fast & was stressing me out so this post has been educational. My hairdresser noticed w/o me mentioning it & she hasn't seen my hair since early November so that's a huge difference. Can anyone suggest another HBP med that doesn't have 100's of side effects? Also, how do we report this to the FDA? Thank you ahead for any responses I receive.
My hair has been growing in since I changed to another blood pressure medicine. I have had to go through three different meds until I found one that has less side effects for me. I’m now taking hydralazine twice a day. Was more often in the beginning. My hair loss has stopped and I have all different lengths of new growth all mixed in with my hair. I’m a retired stylist and knew it was medicine related. I have shoulder length hair and I’m am so glad I don’t have to vacuum my bed now every morning and pick up hair all over my house. My poor little dog had my hair stuck wrapped around his paws too.
I started
Losartan two weeks ago and my hair has started to come out, which is very distressing to me as I already have fine thin hair.
This medication is the 9th I have tried , some made my hair come out but the reason I stopped taking them were because of different side effect such as filling up will water ( lercandipidine)
Severe breathlessness or terrible coughing ( Rampiril)
I have been backed into a corner now and feel I have no choice in the matter as my bp is very high.
I have had no hair loss with Valsartan - but I did with Losartan, when I used it for about 4 months. I regained my hair once I switched back to Valsartan, and my BP is now completely normal.
Unfortunately Valsartan caused me severe breathlessness so had to come of it.

Both my wife and I take losartan. Read on for what solved my wif's hair loss.
My hair is implants and they are now failing. So did my fathers and he is not taking any meds so I doubt my hair loss is related.
My wife however experienced directly related hair thinning and loss as others describe. We did not connect the dots. We did however buy Rogain for women.
This solved her hair loss within weeks and some hair has regrowth. She has enough hair to look good enough to get by without being mentally destroyed.
Detailes:
50 mg losartan a day. She would die without it.
5% minoxidil topical in scalp every day.
Hi glad to hear she has regrowth. I changed my losartan medicine to another blood pressure medicine and I have regrowth also. Has she tried making a change in her prescription? I have a crazy blood pressure problem from MS so I understand how life saving the medicine is. I have changed three times before I found one that is working and doesn’t make my hair fall out. Best of luck to you
I’ve been on Losartan 100 for years, and my hair falls out every time I comb it. I stop putting chemicals in my hair years ago to see if that would help and my hair still sheds every day I comb it. I haven’t talked to my doctor yet but I will on my next visit.
