If it isn't scored to be cut in half you shouldn't unless directed by your doctor. It is best to take Benicar HCTZ at bed time where it is the most effect. I take Benicar but not the HCTZ because that is an added from of potassium and im allergic to it.
Probably not, it’s a combination of two drugs. Most drugs that aren’t time released can be cut in half, aspirin for example, but if you break up or crush a time release drug you can instantly dose yourself with a drug that’s meant to slowly enter your system. l don’t know why you’d want to cut this drug in half, you should consult the prescribing doctor with your rationale, and if he/she thinks you should be on a lower dose he’ll prescribe that to you. In this case, Benicar HTC comes in 20mg/25 dose, so if your doctor agrees he’ll simply prescribe the lower dose version if he agrees on your rationale. Why you think it works better taking it twice a day implies that you’re already doing it so stop! This is something you need to speak to your doctor about. Never do anything like this with modern complex medications without speaking to your doctor and/or your pharmacist first, if you do you could be inadvertently harming yourself.
Never assume anything about modern complex medications. Breaking simple meds like aspirin and Tylenol are entirely different and generally won’t be potentially life threatening. Never make seemingly simple decisions like this on your own!
How do you know its "working better". Its a once a day medication and that is the way it should be taken. You should not break it because its coated to be a once a day dose. Breaking them give it all to you at once. If you doc wanted you to do that the label would say that and not once a day.
