no no no. A bad case is helped by prednisone. The poison is an allergic reaction to a toxin, the poison ivy or oak. There are creams for it, like the cortisone creams that are otc, but a really bad case requires a trip to the doc.
And they make a Benadryl cream to help with the itching, wear gloves to apply it, so you don't spread it to more places. It can spread from touching it and then touching someone or somewhere else.
