Amlodipine is indicated as first-line drug to treat hypertension may be used in most patients as a single agent for controlling blood pressure. Patients who are not adequately controlled with a single antihypertensive agent may benefit from the addition of amlodipine, which has been used in combination with thiazide diuretics, beta-adrenergic blocking agents or inhibitors of angiotensin converting enzyme.
It is also indicated for the treatment of myocardial ischemia as first-line drug, due to both fixed obstruction (stable angina) as vasospasm / vasoconstriction (Prinzmetal angina or variant angina) coronária.Amlodipina the vasculature can be used alone as monotherapy or in combination with other antianginal drugs in patients with angina refractory to nitrates and / or adequate doses of beta blockers.
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dihydropyridines.
