I have taken Ambien for five years for help sleeping with restless leg syndrome. It works well for me.
Use caution when starting this hypnotic medication. I've slept walked, cooked, had sex, and soaked in my hot tub (with two open cans of black olives floating beside me?) while under its effects. I have no memory of doing any of these things. My wife starting monitoring what I was doing when I got up a night to be sure I was safe. She said I was in a trance like state and could not fully wake me. This lasted on and off for about a year. I haven't experienced any ill effects since. I'm currently on 20 mg at bed time. This is a high end dose for most people, but with restless leg, that what it takes. I sleep at least 7 to 8 hours compared to 2 or 3 before Ambien.
Ask your Doctor about Gabapentin. Off label use for restless legs.
Good luck
