I get this particular medicine filled every month and for the past three months straight it has been disintegrating and turning into a fine powder substance and this has been making me run short of this medication every month now. I want you to know that I store it correctly and nobody besides my pharmacy and I have touched them.
Why is my alprazolam 1mg tablets turning into fine powder when I store it correctly?

Hi sunangel74 ,, I have been on alprazolam (xanax) 1mg four times a day for five years, then I was put on a higher dose of three 2mg three times a day, well when I got bumped up I started taking the 2mg bars and I had about a half bottle left over and I put them in my safe under my bed and started on the new dose immediately. Well a hurricane hit not to long ago and the streets was blocked with trees and water and electric wires and pole and I couldn't get to the pharmacy to get my refill for three days and I was out so I used the old ones I had in my safe and when I opened the bottle they was chalky and brittle and the engraving was hard to read, but I knew what they was and they worked perfectly fine, they was almost three years old and the potency was the same.
So my answer to you is """yes it's safe to take""" and in time when certain medications goes old they do that, and become soft, brittle, chalky, it's just because they are older but they are perfectly fine to take. Hope this helps and have a blessed day and god bless. Ps, sorry for the book I wrote, I just wanted to cover the when, what, and why's of my story.
Hi, Sunangel!
Are you sure that these tablets are made by the same manufacturer as your previous medication?
If you're not sure talk with your pharmacist and explain the problem you're having.
It may be as simple as getting a different product.
Hello
I sometimes "find" one or two hidden away in a drawer or someplace and they are very soft and not at all as hard as the ones still in the bottle. They seem to work like the bottled ones but just very soft.

Plus, they could be soft because they're old. Ask your pharmacist's advice and ask if they are old or fresh in his supply.
Hello,
Xanax should be store at room temperature, so approximately 65-70°F. Also, keep the bottle away from direct sunlight. But in the meantime, can you send the imprint code. So I can make sure it isn’t the disintegrating tablets that you’re taking.
