I take 150mg Effexor XR each morning without food, and I never experienced an upset stomach, which I assumed was the reason it says to take with food. My anxious personality says the medicine isn’t working its full potential because I am taking it on an empty stomach. I would ask my doctor and I will to confirm but I don’t see him for a couple more weeks. I just wanted to hear what you guys had to say as well. Thank you!!
Is it absolutely necessary that I eat when I take Effexor XR?

Hi, ow7en! Yes, it helps to prevent nausea but that doesn't sound like it's a problem for you. How long have you been taking the Effexor? It can take at least 4-6 weeks to feel improvement and 6-8 weeks to achieve therapeutic levels in your bloodstream. If you've been on it for awhile you may need a dosage adjustment ~ you're on a good maintenance dose but it can be prescribed up to a maximum of 225mg/day.
Best regards and I hope you're feeling your best very soon!
Hi Wildcat, thanks for your response!! Today was actually my first day of 150mg, I started with 37.5mg about three months ago, and after two weeks on that, I went to 75mg. Last week, my doctor moved me up to 112.5mg and I gave it four to five days and then my symptoms worsened a few days ago. Today he called and said I could move up to 150mg, so I’m really hoping it helps, because the 75mg worked well for awhile. Thanks for answering my question as well as the kind words. Thank you best wishes.
