I have taken antabuse 250mg for 2 days. Then I stopped for two days and now am drinking. So far so good... God damn alcohol! Wish it were illegal like the good old days. Makes me do stupid things like create an account to answer this forum (not that forums are unhelpful)
I was going to ask... Lol i took it for 5 days, but not sure what day i stop taking it, im guessing 3 or 4 day, if it has been that long i should be safe? Lol
I have been taking 200mg tablet daily for 55 days... When is it safe to have a drink. Yes I had a problem but I don't want to cut the option for drinking socially out of my life. AB did nothing for my cravings but I haven't had a drink in 55 days for fear of side affects.
Depending on your weight and exercise. I suggest 12 days. I took 500ml per day for 14 days and then 250mg for 10 days and drank on the 12th day following me stopping. I am a bigger guy though. You have done well completing 55 days. Before you decide to drink again write some goals for yourself and see what is more important to you first. When you do not drink you will save money, have better relationships and health. Life might be a little boring.. but over time your habits will change and your confidence will grow within yourself. Best of luck.
Thanks for replying. I'm 112kg and workout for 90 mins a day in response. Yup done well but I live in Australia in the top of a hotel overlooking the Gold Coast, sitting on my balcony and having a drink is inevitable
Yeah I hear you, the Goldy is amazing ;) I am from Australia too... Now living in Hanoi. I now plan ahead to break up the cycle and if I want to have a weekend out I do it once every 2 weeks or once a month and then go straight back onto following the weekend. It took me over a year to get to that stage though and still do not follow through. When I start to drink again I don't stop for a week to a month. I am currently 7 days in on AB and plan to do 50 days before I have a break for a weekend. I will see if my self control has improved by then or not.
Even if it is your very first time taking Antabuse/Disulfiram it starts working in your body within an hour or two and can last in your body for up to two weeks depending on dosage. 500mg will take 14 days to leave your body.
My experience differs as most bodies do I suppose. However, I am alcoholic and took AB 500mg for four straight days. I choose to drink on the fifth day with no AB day of. I had zero side effects however. As I said, we are all different but I wish I hadn't relapsed and even chanced it. On my way to an AA meeting this evening.
I've been on antabuse and its saveing my life and fear for being really sick I'd rather not know when can i drink afther i stop but know when I do stop I'll have enough time to think of the stupid mistake I'd be marking by stopping it at all it helps with my craveings also please people stay on the drug it will save u alot of trouble and heartache not to mention jail time I'll b praying for u guys thanx jim
I will give advice from when i have taken it.
I took 1 x 250mg 11 days ago, then on the 5th day took 1 x 250 mg. I had not ill effect when i drank.
If I had of been taking 250mg per day this would have been a different story.
If you wish to not drink, take 250mg daily for 1 week and then cut it down to every 2 - 3 days. The antabuse will then be in your system and keep you off alcohol for 14 days at least.
These sites where people ask how soon after taking antabuse can I drink make me sick, maybe never because obviously you have a serious problem, are an alcoholic and that is why you were taking it to begin with. Get a clue you can't drink and if you do you will continue to destroy yourself and everyone around you! The selfish, self centered drunk still wanting to drink.
Judge much? Unless you have walked a mile in someone shoes… You have no idea!
Perhaps compassion might be a better approach?
Hopefully the sad lonely person who wrote this comment will read this. Sounds like you have momma or daddy issues. You have no clue what anyone goes through so who do you think you are judging anyone. Espcially since you are reading up on a drug site. So whats your poison?? Mr judgy mc judger
I have been taking antabuse for a few months now. About 3 weeks in I had a few days when the pharmacy was out of stock so i thought ok ive been good im gonna have a few shots. So i did and after a hr or so in i felt really weird. I didnt enjoy the way i was feeling so all i could do is lay down and sleep. I must add that at this time i was taking the drug consistantly for the three weeks before and i waited about two days to make sure i would be ok.
BUT MOVING on to my second attempt. The last time i took my pill was tues morning and today is sunday. I was robbed on tuesday night so i had to get my script refilled and had some issues cause it wasnt do for a fill so it took a little longer. Anyway last night was one of those nights where i thought oh it will be ok if i drink i havent taken the pill since tues so 4 days now. BIG HUGE MISTAKE. So follow me. Im on my second month on the drug with the exception of one other time ive been consistant.
Last night i went through something words cannot describe. It was horrible. I took about 4-5 shots. Im not usually a light weight but my face turned ruby red, my words werent coming out of my mouth correctly, i was light headed, puking. My heart was beating out of my chest. The only thing i could do i lay on the couch moaning. The only thing that felt good was the touch of the cool leather couch on my face. There are more things that i felt but dont know how to describe them. Please be careful no one deserves to feel what i did not even cs12955. Please if you want to drink be very careful. And all i know is what i went through last night has definatly made me think twice about it. Good luck
@ LAaron55,
Compassion comes from Latin (compassio) meaning in other words, to suffer along with. To see your suffering is not separate from their suffering.
Hi to all of you, I started taking antabuse use two weeks ago, every day, 200 one and I forgot to take it today... As I'm a gambler aswell, I put a lot money on tonight's football match... and it end up draw... So I lost... A bit p*** off, so I went and both 4 budweisers, 440ml one, before I open first one, I spent almost 2h searching and reading about antabuse and safe time to drink... (shame on me). All answer and comments are mix, so I thought f*** it, let's try it... By now I'm opening third one, I got hot flushes by now and heart beat went super up on few min, let's see what gonna happen later. I will update you tomorrow.
I think most of us on here have a realisation that we have an alcohol problem,
This is just a drug fact page..and if you are in aa you should know not to do other peoples inventory. For me i try to talk out my unresolved reservations about other peoples relapses with my sponser not a computer.
You are an ass.
Wow, thats cruel, why are you looking the info up? Why are you on this thread? Takes one to know one. Best of luck
Wow. I don't know when you even wrote this but you sound like an absolute ass. I had to stop & let you know. Ya sure drinking isn't the right answer and it can destroy families and lives. There's also something called harm reduction. If a person is NOT ready or willing to stop then let's help them stay safe. WITHOUT judging! Helping!
Cs Finally someone's got a clue iv delt with alcoholism and i did that Dealt with it and stopped. My father drank himself to death and now my brother is doing the same after a serious head injury he's been made to take Antabuse and I found a big stash of empty vodka bottles in his room and was on this site because iv noticed he hasn't been taking his pills for about a week too so I wanted to know if he could have drunk them and not ended up sick. I'm tired of people saying it's a disease it's a choice u have the choice to drink and u have a choice to give up. People need to stop blaming the world and take responsibility for the actions.
I had been taking 100mg for one week. I stopped taking AB on the Monday. Drank Thurs and Fri will no issues. Sat and Sun tried to drink but have felt really nauseus.
Hi I took one 400mg tablet on Tuesday morning its now friday 6pm would it be safe for me to have a drink. Ive only ever took one other tablet a mth ago??
No. I did it today after 3 days off antabuse (two weeks taking this drug). Thank God I did not vomit. But I was confused, hot and had a rash on my chest, arms and legs. I think that at this point the antabuse has almost left the body but there are always some leftovers... I would wait a week.
Please read the question correctly. You have been taking Antabuse for 2 weeks 'daily'.
The question read that this person had take 2 dosages in 48 hours and then 3 days with out.
I drank 8-day's after antibuse - heart rate thru roof, face turned beet red & alcohol hit me so strongly. I was scared to death. My BP went from 110/80 to 198/96. I waited a day then went back on antibuse. I was really stressed out day I drank & feeling lonely. I agree with other answer..best advice..Choose Life..I am doing Yoga now.
Yeh don't drink after 48 hrs I did very ill won't be doing it again I thought my time was up it's put me off 3 yrs sober be careful honestly i thought would bt be tat bad heart rate thru roof puking for hrs constantly hav a nice day choose life
Hello angrysquirrel. Yes. However, another 24 hours to be on the side of caution. Regards pledge
Hi pledge, thanks for your response. Have had two light beers over the last hour or so with no Ill effects. However I'm not sure if I'm really compelled to drink anymore tonight although there is an itch to, but not sure if I should. Not out of fear but mainly due to feeling bad. Still trying to fill the void I used to fill with a drink I spose...
Once you've been taking it longer than two days (say for a period of weeks) it can take up to two weeks or more to fully leave your system. This is one of the best things about the drug - prevents you from just skipping a couple days to go drinking.
Yes Ive been on antabuse for 20 days and had stopped antabuse for 3 days(200mg) I was ok having a few beers but be careful
100mg after 3 days you probably wont feel it. I regularly take 250mg and can drink 1 1/2 day later with somoe serious effort which is definately not worth it. 500mg more like 4 days but you still feel it. It does not make you sick, it put massive pressure to your head and eyes and makes drinking no fun whatsoever. You will break out in a rash and become extremely red, after 7-9 beers it passes and you are good to go... the truth sucks for alcoholics...
Hey irishdrunk. I'm on 500mg and I took one saturday and one sunday then mon tue wed didn't take any. I'm drinking now have had four light beers and my face is red and hot. If I continue to drink it should go away?
That's a lot of 500mg I would say it will take 3-4 hours of about 2 1/2 beers am hour before you beat it. Let me know. It is probably too much in your system to flush out though is my thought it will be too much to handle. If you can get the beers down then you should be fine after 8-9
Also if it is too strong in your system the drug will basically make you stop drinking. By the pressure in your head and shortness of breath. If you can drink you're fine if you can't you're not. The only way to know is to start drinking a beer usually after the first beer 10-15 minutes your mouth will get numb ears very hot and after 30 minutes you will see a rash on your upper chest and upper arms. If you nurse some beers over the next few hours it will just go away. However, the next day of you try to drink again it may still be the same story. But it is really easy to beat (250mg) or less which is the bad part or good part depending on how you look at it.
Is anyone around to comment on their experience?? I have been taking 500 mg for three months and usually only take it every three days or so. I haven't taken a dose since Saturday... about 82 hours ago. Prior to starting this drug, I was a daily drinker with a fairly high tolerance for alcohol. I just took a sip of wine five minutes ago with no adverse reaction so far... can anyone shed light on what I may/may not expect?
You will feel it, rash, head pressure. It should make it too hard to drink. 500mg just taking one takes about 4 days after months you're screwed or in a better way you wil stay sober
That is not good advice and can put people under false assumption to drink putting them in danger. It clearly says that the drug stays in your system around 14 days. You have take a small amount, I would wait at least 8 to 10 days. I have read countless messages on this forum where people have had BP through the roof, rashes and nausea. Do not put your self at risk and end up in hospital or violently ill.
Can you drink redbull?
