My experience with drinking while taking SSRI's (which lexapro is as others have said) is that you get sick really fast. I drank what I could normally drink before I started Prozac (another SSRI) years ago when I was like 21 & after the 1st time I drank what I would normally drink while on prozac, I threw up all night. So I wouldn't risk it. I never drank with my SSRI's again. Horrible experience. Wish you the best. Have fun.
I guess that if you wish to risk it you had better think about what size drink you are saying. A 20 ounce beer is three drinks, right? one drink pushes the limit.
I believe antidepressants and alcohol can cause respiratory failure. And the whole liver failure comes along the way too. Never can predict how the body is going to handle something this time.
Medications have a half life. That means that by the time you take your next dose, the last dose is only half gone. so you will always have medication in you. That means there is never a time when the medicine is not present.
toslow,
All the literature on ssri/snri antidepressants do not advise any alcohol intake while on those particular meds. I'm pretty sure it has to do with your liver metabolism of the Lexapro and the extra work your liver would have with a few beers on top of that. Knowing that and knowing that you can't live without a liver, why stress it? The best option for you and the racetrack trip just might be water or a pop, soda, coke (depending where you are). Have a great time at the races, it's your life, just gave you some information.
