I've been using diphenhydramine as a sleep aid, but the dosage seems to be losing it's effect. Can I increase it by cutting a pill in half?
Is it OK to take 1&1/2 pills of benadril 25mg as sleep aid?

Adult dose of diphenhydramine is 25-50mg (so 1-2 25mg tabs) every 4-6 hours. You should take no more than 6 doses per 24 hours. So yes, you can take 11/2 tabs or you can increase to two tabs if you want. The drowsiness side effect of an antihistamine like Benedryl does decrease as you become tolerant to the effects. It is good to take a break from taking it from time to time so that you dont develop tolerance.
Thank you Dzoo -- answer is right on what I needed to know! SarKY
