The 2022 advertising campaign for Stelara, called “Move towards Relief” features an unknown actress because the campaign aimed to include authentic and diverse adults living with moderately to severely active Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis to represent a real community.

Previous campaigns, such as “Enough: May Be Able to Help” in 2021 have featured Lauren Lee Smith born on June 19, 1980, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and best known for her roles in Trick 'r Treat (2007), Mutant X (2001) and Pathology (2008).

Actress CariDee English appeared in Stelara commercials from 2014 to 2016. CariDee was born on September 23, 1984, in Fargo, North Dakota, USA, and is best known for her roles in Gossip Girl (2007), Supercon (2018), and One Tree Hill (2003). She has had plaque psoriasis for most of her life.

Stelara is an immunosuppressant medication that works by binding to two inflammatory cytokines, IL-12 and IL-23, which have been identified as important contributors to chronic inflammation. Stelara is given every 8 weeks for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and every 12 weeks for people with psoriasis. It is associated with an increased risk of infection; and nasopharyngitis, headache, and tiredness are its most common side effects.

How does Ilumya work to treat psoriasis?

Ilumya works by binding selectively to interleukin-23 (IL-23) which is a naturally occurring cytokine. IL-23 plays a key role in promoting inflammation and regulating other cytokines (such as IL-17) and inflammatory substances, such as TNF-α3-7. By blocking the effects of IL-23, Ilumya helps control the release of IL-17 and TNF-α, which reduces inflammation associated with psoriasis. It also decreases how many inflammatory cells are present within psoriatic lesions, helps prevent plaque formation, and resolves tissue damage. Continue reading
