Drug Interaction Report

Before you undergo any imaging procedure where metrizamide may be given by injection, let your doctor know if you are currently being treated with metOLazone. Injection of metrizamide can sometimes cause kidney problems, and the risk may be increased if you are also using metOLazone. The interaction may be more likely if you have preexisting kidney disease, congestive heart failure, or diabetes; or if you are elderly, dehydrated, or taking other medications that can affect the kidney. Depending on your health situation, your doctor may want you to stop using metOLazone for a certain length of time before and after the procedure. You may also be asked to increase your fluid intake the day before the procedure, or you may be given intravenous fluids before, during, and after the procedure. Since metrizamide contains iodine, also let your doctor know if you have had a previous reaction to iodine or iodine-containing products. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

MetOLazone and ethanol (alcohol) may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate. These side effects are most likely to be seen at the beginning of treatment, following a dose increase, or when treatment is restarted after an interruption. Let your doctor know if you develop these symptoms and they do not go away after a few days or they become troublesome. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you, and use caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
