If you are using lactulose for the treatment of a condition known as portal-systemic encephalopathy, you should talk to your doctor before using it with magnesium citrate. The loose stools produced by treatment with magnesium citrate may make it difficult to know when you have achieved an adequate dosage of lactulose. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
