Taking itraconazole and famotidine too close together may interfere with the absorption of itraconazole and reduce its effectiveness. To prevent or minimize the interaction, itraconazole should be taken at least two hours before or one hour after famotidine. Taking itraconazole with a cola beverage may also help by increasing stomach acid. Contact your doctor if your infection does not improve or gets worse. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Food increases the absorption of itraconazole capsules but decreases the absorption of itraconazole oral solution. Capsules should be taken immediately after a full meal and the solution be taken on an empty stomach to ensure best results.
