Drug interactions
Moderate drug interactions
Moderate:
dextromethorphan carisoprodol
Applies to: Kita La Tos (dextromethorphan / guaifenesin) and carisoprodol
Using dextromethorphan together with carisoprodol may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Some people, especially the elderly, may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Also avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Food/lifestyle interactions
Moderate food/lifestyle interactions
Moderate:
dextromethorphan Food/Lifestyle
Applies to: Kita La Tos (dextromethorphan / guaifenesin)
Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of dextromethorphan such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with dextromethorphan. Do not use more than the recommended dose of dextromethorphan, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.

Disease interactions
5 potential interactions Applies to: 5 conditions, including Liver Disease, Drug Dependence, Alcoholism, Renal Dysfunction, and Porphyria.
Alcoholism
Moderate:
carisoprodol
Carisoprodol has a moderate potential interaction with Alcoholism.
Carisoprodol is partially metabolized to meprobamate, a pharmacologically active agent with known addictive potential. According to the manufacturer, abrupt cessation of carisoprodol 100 mg/kg/day (approximately 5 times the recommended daily adult dosage) was associated with mild withdrawal symptoms such as abdominal cramps, insomnia, headache, nausea and chills in some study subjects. In clinical use, psychological dependence and abuse have been rare. Nevertheless, therapy with carisoprodol should be administered cautiously in addiction-prone individuals, such as those with a history of alcohol or substance abuse. It may be prudent to refrain from dispensing large quantities of medication to these patients.
Drug Dependence
Moderate:
carisoprodol
Carisoprodol has a moderate potential interaction with Drug Dependence.

Liver Disease
Moderate:
carisoprodol
Carisoprodol has a moderate potential interaction with Liver Disease.
Carisoprodol is primarily converted in the liver to several metabolites, one of which (meprobamate) is pharmacologically active. The metabolites and a small amount of the parent drug are excreted in the urine. Patients with impaired renal and/or hepatic function may be at greater risk for adverse effects due to drug and metabolite accumulation. Therapy with carisoprodol should be administered cautiously in such patients.
Porphyria
Major:
carisoprodol
Carisoprodol has a major potential interaction with Porphyria.
The use of carisoprodol is contraindicated in patients with acute intermittent porphyria. Carisoprodol is partially metabolized to the pharmacologically active meprobamate, which has been reported to precipitate acute attacks of porphyria in susceptible patients.
Renal Dysfunction
Moderate:
carisoprodol
Carisoprodol has a moderate potential interaction with Renal Dysfunction.
Carisoprodol is primarily converted in the liver to several metabolites, one of which (meprobamate) is pharmacologically active.
