Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Heart Disease, Cardiovascular Disease, Thyrotoxicosis, Diabetes Mellitus
Compounds containing levonordefrin, a sympathomimetic amine used as a vasoconstrictor in local anesthetic solutions, should be used with extreme caution in the presence of disease which may adversely affect the patient's cardiovascular system. Close monitoring is recommended in patients whose medical history and physical evaluation suggest the existence of hypertension, arteriosclerotic heart disease, cerebral vascular insufficiency, heart block, thyrotoxicosis, and diabetes.
Mepivacaine (applies to levonordefrin/mepivacaine) arrhythmias
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility.
Mepivacaine should be used with caution in patients with a history of severe disturbances of cardiac rhythm or heart block. Care should be exercised when using this agent in patients with theses conditions.
