Twinrix Disease Interactions
There are 4 disease interactions with Twinrix (hepatitis a adult vaccine / hepatitis b adult vaccine).
Hepatitis A adult vaccine (applies to Twinrix) liver disease
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility.
The use of hepatitis A adult vaccine in patients with chronic liver disease may have lower antibody response to the vaccine. Monitoring is recommended when vaccinating these patients.
Hepatitis A vaccine (applies to Twinrix) immunocompromised
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Immunodeficiency
The use of hepatitis A vaccine in immunocompromised persons, including individuals receiving immunosuppressive therapy, may result in diminished immune response to the vaccine and these patients may not be protected against hepatitis A virus. Monitoring is recommended when vaccinating these patients.
Hepatitis A vaccine (applies to Twinrix) liver dysfunction
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Liver Disease
The use of hepatitis A vaccine in patients with chronic liver disease may result in lower antibody response. Care should be exercised when using this agent in patients with liver disease.
Hepatitis B vaccine (applies to Twinrix) hemophilia
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Bleeding Associated with Coagulation Defect
Hepatitis B vaccine (adult and pediatric) is usually for intramuscular administration. However, it may be administered subcutaneously to persons at risk for hemorrhage following intramuscular injections (e.g., hemophiliacs), although it may result in lower antibody response. Additionally, when other aluminum- absorbed vaccines have been administered subcutaneously, an increased incidence of local reactions including subcutaneous nodules has been observed. Therefore, consider subcutaneous administration only in persons who are at risk of hemorrhage following intramuscular injections.
