Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Hyperlipidemia, Diabetes Mellitus, Obesity
Parenteral nutrition fat emulsion products are contraindicated in patients with severe lipid metabolism disorders characterized by hypertriglyceridemia (serum triglycerides greater than 1000 mg/dL). Patients with conditions such as inherited lipid disorders, diabetes mellitus, obesity, or metabolic syndromes are at increased risk while in treatment and should be monitored closely.
Fat emulsion (applies to fat emulsion) renal impairment
Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Renal Dysfunction
Parenteral nutrition fat emulsion products may cause aluminum toxicity and patients with renal impairment, including preterm neonates, are at increased risk. Caution and monitoring are advised.
