For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I received the 1st Shingrix shot at 3 pm. Hurt and burned but only for a few minutes. Went home to bed but couldn't sleep. Dozed a few minutes here and there. At 3 am I was awoken in excruciating pain. My arm felt like concrete. Unbearable headache, nausea, and body aches. Considering hospital but thought not. The next day my arm was painful enough to need a sling. I seriously do not want to get the 2nd shot. Horrendous experience!!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I experienced every side effect from headache to nausea to lethargy to arm soreness. All side effects dissipated within 3 days. Though I don’t look forward to the 2nd dose, I understand that shingles is much, much worse. I haven’t read anything about needing a booster shot 5-10 years out. Anyone know about this?"

"I got my 1st dose yesterday. My arm hurts like crazy, so much that it woke me up when I turned in my sleep. I have a terrible headache that isn't going away with ibuprofen. My doctor told me about a rash (which I don't have yet) that could last up to a week, feeling tired, sick to my stomach, fevers, and chills. So far just headache, injection site pain, tired out, and freezing all the time. But I would rather deal with these than deal with shingles for sure! I selected 'no' about the insurance covering, the vaccine is $158 here, and Humana Medicare Advantage Gold covered most of the cost. I had to pay $47. My drugstore doesn't even stock it, so I was on a waiting list for over 2 months."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "First dose of Shingrix, no side effects, just a slightly sore arm. Second dose - within four hours, started feeling really bad. Nausea, body aches, chills, exhaustion. It got worse over the next 24 hours, then started to clear. One of the worst nights in recent memory, and I just recovered from 11 days of COVID-19! (A month prior to the second vaccine.) I had really bad chickenpox as a kid, and lately, a lot of my friends have been coming out with shingles. One had it in her eye! Probably all the extra pandemic stress. Vaccinations are, by and large, the way better choice than the disease - if you have the opportunity, get the injection; just be prepared to feel a little junky. I plan to get my COVID-19 vaccine next month, allowing time between the vaccines and still before my immunity wears off. I am in good health and take vitamins and exercise and all of that. My husband, who does none of that, had no COVID-19 symptoms, although he was positive; he had no side effects from either Shingrix vaccine."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I had the same horrible side effects with both injections, with the second one increased fever, myalgia, stomach discomfort, nausea, chills, and a red swollen arm from the top of my shoulder almost to my elbow. It’s my third day and I still have symptoms. The disturbing information is that the Shingrix is only effective for a short time."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Beware! Okay, so the first shot, little to no symptoms except for at the sight of injection, it was hot and painful for a month. The second shot was awful! I had the chills, nausea, very lethargic for 3 days. I was so cold my teeth were chattering. I couldn’t sit up or focus, I was miserable. Then, about 4 weeks later, I had red, itchy spots on my legs, mainly below my knees. I scratched one leg, and it just burned horribly and made the red spots bigger. Three months later, they are still there. My leg I didn’t scratch, the red spots are just red dots and not as raised, but still there after three months. I have never had this issue, no new soaps, foods, or change in habits. Lotion doesn’t help and often burns on the leg I had scratched. I wouldn’t recommend!!!!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "My first dose of injection, and the pharmacist said to stay hydrated. I went to bed as normal and woke with a headache and nausea. Took Tylenol and ate yogurt for breakfast and headed to work. The headache diminished for an hour or so, and the uncontrollable shivering started. I had to leave work as the combination of headache, nausea, and shivering made it impossible to do my job. At home, I went to bed and drank a lot of water, and the symptoms were flu-like. I dread the second shot, but will be better prepared."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I got the shot on a Wednesday. On Thursday, I had chills, nausea, a fever of 101+, and a migraine. On Friday, I still have the headache and lethargy. I still have a sore arm, but I can take that. I’m DREADING getting the second dose. I didn’t know the side effects could be so severe, so I didn’t plan to be knocked completely off my feet."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I am a 57-year-old female. I got my first dose the week after Thanksgiving with only a low temperature of 100.3 or 100.4. On January 11th, I started with COVID-19 with minimal symptoms. After about a week, the symptoms were gone. A couple of days ago, I got my second shingles vaccine. My arm got sore, but the next day it was just a bit tender at the injection site. On the day after the injection, I had a temp of 100.3 and a light headache. As the day went on, I had fatigue. That evening, the fever broke and I had a bit of nausea and diarrhea. I went to bed and slept great. On the second day, all is good."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "Got my 2nd shingles injection 2 months after my first injection. Took Tylenol before getting both injections. 1st injection has sore arm, headache, not too bad. 2nd injection I had gotten a really sore arm right away and started feeling headache, sore, achy all over, and kinda dizzy and nauseous within a couple of hours. Had extremely sore joints and headaches for 3 days. I’ve had every immunization there is (from the military), and this by far was the worst one. But I would do it again if needed to avoid shingles!!!!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I received my second Shingrix shot yesterday. The side effects feel worse than my second COVID shot: chills, achy muscles, pain at the injection site, headache, fatigue, brief nausea, and a dry nagging cough. I came on this site to see if anyone else had a dry cough as a side effect. I feel validated by reading a few with cough as a symptom. Although I feel run over by a truck, I would do it again. My husband had shingles and said it was the worst thing he has experienced to date."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I am 54, female, that decided to get this vaccine since I had chickenpox as a child. That said, I am also a stage 4 lung cancer patient, so I asked my oncologist about getting it, and she said I’m fine to get it if I choose to do so. The first injection, I only experienced tenderness in the arm that I received it in. I got the second one yesterday. The arm that I had it in was so sore I couldn’t even sleep on that side. Then I woke up about 3 AM with the worst headache ever, I don’t even remember getting that kind of headache when there was a tumor in my head (that had metastasized to my brain). The aches and pains, including nausea, are off the chart today. I would still recommend it because I know that this is nothing compared to the pain and long-term effects of shingles. I have taken some ibuprofen, and this does help with the aches and headaches, and fortunately, I have medication for nausea anyway, due to my condition, so I took that as well. So right now, I’m feeling a little better."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I had my first shingles vaccine with my flu injection in mid-October; the arm soreness was as expected, and I took Tylenol and was able to do my normal activities. Five days ago, I received my second shingles injection in my right arm and my pneumonia injection in the left. That night, my left arm was sore from the pneumonia injection, but no pain in the right arm. The next day, the right arm became swollen, red, hot, and painful with a hard knot at the injection site. I became febrile, achy, and nauseated and stayed in bed for two days. Now, the fifth day, I still feel tired; my arm is still very painful (it feels like I have an abscess where the injection site is). Due to COVID, I am canceling all appointments and engagements just because I don't have proof all of this is because of the shingles vaccine!"

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I had my first Shingrix injection in Oct 2020, and my arm was a little sore, and my body ached a little. Twelve hours later, I was suddenly hit with intense nausea and immobilizing diarrhea. I have never experienced anything like it, chills too. Symptoms lasted for about an hour, leaving me weak, however, the next day I felt better. Today I just got my second one, and I am hoping it's not as bad, but I have my nausea meds and my heave bucket at the ready. Better than having shingles, though."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "I had the first Shingrix vax in December 2021. After reading the negative reviews, I was hesitant, but my grandmother had a very bad case of shingles from her shoulder down her arm, with extremely painful blisters, and the pain lasted for over a year. I experienced some mild side effects that lasted three days: nausea, headache, and pain at the site of the shot. I had the second injection yesterday, and I made sure to drink a 16 oz bottle of water before going to my appointment. I also made sure to relax my arm before the injection. I came home and rested the rest of the day. I woke up at five in the morning with a headache, took one extra strength Tylenol, and went back to sleep. It’s now almost 24 hours after the vax, and I’m okay. Hope this helps."

For Herpes Zoster, Prophylaxis "It's Friday night, and I got a flu injection and the shingles vaccine last Sunday morning. I never had a problem with the flu injection. I've been very sick all week, with side effects coming and going and coming back. I had chills and a slight fever, along with bad body aches. My stomach has hurt on and off, and I've been nauseous. I've experienced very bad anxiety and shakiness. I'm on insulin, and it feels just like a very low sugar level, but my sugars were running sky high (over 300) for days, and my correction doses of insulin were bringing it down. Starting yesterday, Thursday, I've been able to control it. I've had a very unusual cough that comes and goes, and when it starts, it's nonstop for a while. Tomorrow will be day 6, and I'm hoping for improvement. I've had two COVID vaccinations and three boosters with no side effects. This shingles vaccine has hit me very hard and has me worried."
